Times Washin'lton llurraii, 1322 New York Avenue WASHINGTON, May 20.—Ignoring altogether the claims of either friends or foe of prohibition before the Senate Judiciary Committee, tlie facts admitted by General Andrews, chief enforcement officer, and United States District Attorney Emory Buckner, will help those who want to know the truth make tip. their minds as to the success or failure of prohibtion. Following are some of the facts: Authenticated statistics compiled by police departments of most of the large cities show a progressive and continuous increase in arrests for drunkenness from 1920—the first year of constitutional prohibition—to 1925 inclusive. By 1924, arrests for drunkenness In these cities were practically as numerous as in 1916 and 1917, when they reached the highest peak before prohibition. More Corruption There has been more corruption of public officials since prohibition than ever before in the history of the government.
