Market sentiment was very bearish. May wheat was sharply up because there was considerable short covering in view of thJ fact that there are only nine trading days left in this delivery. July was under pressure early and although it staged a slight rally, closed sharply lower. Government crop reports, weather forecasts, export reports and foreign news were all bearish, save for some isolated crop reports, and caused a watchful attitude on the floor. Although corn receipts were double those of Tuesday this grain closed fractionally lower in all deliveries. Oats closed sharply lower for May and fractionally lower for the deferred deliveries after another dull day. Provisions closed higher. Chicago Grain Table —May 19— WII KA T— Prpv. Open. Hleh. Lnw. Strong prices in competitive markets was the cause of the boost in values at the local exchange. Lightweight matcriaT brought the top price of $14.75 against the*Tuesday lop of $14.65. The bulk of the sales was made at $14.35©14.75 in contrast to tlie Tuesday sales at $14.25© 14.65. Receipts were estimated at 6.000 porkers and 56 hogs were held over from the Tuesday trading period and added to tlie total fresh receipts. Trading was active at the advanced prices and the run was sold at an early hour. Matured hogs were chalked up an even 10 cents, while pigs were boosted 25©50c. sows 25c and stags 50c. The cattle market was steady with prices quoted at tlie close of the Tuesday trading period. Receipts were estimated at 1.500 bovines, but the heavy run did not hamper trading to any great degree. Steers were priced at s6© 9.50; heifers, s7© 9.25, and cows $5©7.50. Calves Are Stronger The calf market was strong from the start of the session. Best vealers brought $12.50 which was the same as Tuesday, but the bulk of the vealers were sold at sl2, which was stronger than the previous day. Receipts were estimated at 1,100 vealers and the run moved to the scales nt an early hour. 1 The sheep and lamb market was practically at a standstill, because of the light receipts officially estimated at 100 ovines. WORLEY READ -OF BANDIT HUNT (Continued From Page l) same type and color of auto that was used by the-Jiandits in making their escape after shooting Haag. Although Miss Murphy was unable to identify a picture of the man, it is believed that the man might have been the driver of the slayer's auto, as several neighbors said they saw ! three men in the roadster as it sped ] away from the scene of the crime. Worley said lie was of the opinion that the affair was a carefully planned hold-up. and that the intent I was robbery, pure and simple. “We will have to get Into the underworld and get someone to talking,” he stated. Difficult Case Police said that this murder is one of the most difficult which local officials ever have been called upon to solv. In the Hence Orme murder a ring was taken, while in the murder u r Mrs. Helen Hager Whelchel jewelry was carried away. The robbers who shot Haag took only money, impossible to trace. An attempt is being made to trace their auto, a Chrysler, 1925 model. Recent sales of Chrysler autos here are being checked, but police point out the car might have been bought elsewhere. Detective Captain Jerry Kinney conferred with Detectives Reynolds, Jordan, Schubert, Tooley and Rugenstien, who are assigned to tlie case. In his office this morning. “We have reecived some very valuable clews during the night and we are going to investigate these clews carefully." Kinney said. Dozens of ‘‘tips" are being received by police over the telephone, and all are being investigated. W. A. Surgeon. Monon Railroad ticket agent at the Thirty-Eighth St. station, reported that two men resembling the bandits asked about a freight train to Chicago. Motorpollce Wells and Okey failed to find any trace of the men. Robbery .Motive .Although rumors suggest a motive of revenge or jealousy for the crime police officials after sifting the evidence carefully are working on the theory that the motive of the crime was robbery. But the theory that Haag's slayers were known by him was .strengthened by additional lnformat tion given police by Miss Murphy. Miss Murphy told detectives Tuesday night that Haag smiled and hesitated before replying to the bandits’ demand for his ring, indicating lie recognized the men. After the pause she said he replied: “You can't bully me; go ahead and shoot.” Friends said Haag had often declared hold-up men would never take the ring from him and pointed out lie was the type man who would resist the hold-up attempt. Back From Derby That the robbers might have been out-of-town men was being investigated by detectives, as it was known •that llaag attended the Derby at | Louisville. Ky., Saturday. It was said that some character of the underworld seeing the large ring Haag wore and also the expensive auto was driving followed Haag and his companion to Indianapo>is where he

obtained Information as to Haag's habits. Description of the slayers has been sent to Middle West cities and, with the SSOO reward offered by Miss Lenore Haag. 2859 N. Meridian**St., aunt of the victim, for the arrest and conviction of the men. it is thought that added efforts will be made by out-of-town police to capture tLe men. Police previously had arrested three men for questioning in connection with iho crime, but learned little from them. Yagiancjl charges against two wee dismissed in municipal court today an.l they were freed. Released on Bond j Newton Day, 22, of Oxford Hotel, | the first youth arrested, was released on bond at the county jail late Tuesday after his case was continI ued In municipal court until May j 25. Bond, which was $5,000, was reduced to SSOO and was signe’d by Meredith Nicholson, Jr., son of j Meredith Nicholson, local author. | Police believed the fact Haag remarked to Miss Murphy on entering j the barbecue “There goes that I Chrysler again.” Indicated lie had : previously given thought to the oc-! eupants of the machine which had j passed them. Mis Murphy said site did not pay 'attention to tlie machine as they were racing with an interurban. Question Friends Relatives and friends were questioned by Inspector Worley to learn of Haag's habits and associates, hoping to find other possible motives. It was understood Miss Murphy had paid her last respects to her companion and would not attend tiie funeral this nfternon at Planner and Buchanan Mortuary. Burial was to be in Crown Hill Cemetery. Haag and Miss Murphy had been close friends for more than a year. to St. Louis, Mo., Decoration day. Detectives are making every effort to locate the old man who was in the restaurant at the time of the shooting and left Immediately after the bandits fled. It is possible, police believe, that t lie old man might have been able to get the license number of the robbers' auto. Detectives Tuesday took detailed accounts from Martin Critchftekl, 3!n5 E. Twentieth St., waiter in the restaurant; Miss Murphy, and Jesse Robinson, Negro, 513 Agnes St., and Elisha Chapman, Negro, 540 Leon St., occupants of an ice truck, who wore forced into the restaurant while the robbers were searching Haag's pockets. Neighbors in the neighborhood were questioned in the hope that the license number of Lite auto could bo obtained. Although several neighbors saw tHe auto none obtained the license number.
