ACCOMMODATIONS FOR TOURISTS AT AMERICAN EXPO Expect Attendance of 6,000,000 Motorists at Sesqui-Centennial. Hil Time* Hprrinl PHILADELPHIA. Pa., May 14. Parking space for 50,000 automobiles at one time, the largest parking accommodation ever designed in the world, will he provided for motorists at the Sesqui-Centennial International Exposition relebrating 150 years of American independence in Philadelphia from June 1 to Dec. 1. More than 1,500,000 automobiles, carrying from 5,000,000 to 6,000,000 people, it is expected, will visit the exposition during the six months. This will be the largest caravan of ears converging on one point in history. Philadelphia Magnet All the national trails will be swarming with motorists bound for the exposition. Philadelphia will be the magnet for the nation’s summer touring Instead of the Rocky Mountains or California. Special tourist camps have been laid out on the outskirts of Philadelphia for motorists. These will he equipped with complpte facilities for cooking, washing and bathing. A .number of States will fit up camps p=poHally for their own tourists. Women's clubs of Philadelphia have handed together to provide comforts for motorists visiting the exposition. Spent $4,500,000 Philadelphia, it Is pointed out, has already spent $4,500,000 to Improve highways and approaches to the exposition grounds. Automotive engineers have worked out plans to handle the unprecedented motor traffic. Parking, fueling, and repairing problems will ite met in advance. Thirty million people, it is believed, will visit, the exposition before It closes Dec. 1. This is ten times the entire population of rhe thirteen colonies at the time the Declaration of Independence was signed. Hotel accommodations will be at a premium. Committees are organizing the housewives of Philadelphia to open their homes to the visitors. Because of the congestion, it is believed that the motor tourist camps outside the city will be constantly filled. The secretary bird of Africa gets its name from a tuft of quills sticking up from its head.
