By the last of the week drivers of all of the thirty-nine cars entered are expected to be here for practice. Some drivers warmed up their mounts this week. Cars will qualify four days before tho race. Indianapolis will be host to persons interested in the automotive Industry from many foreign countries May 31. Many automobile companies urge dealers in' other countries to take advantage of their visit to the United States at race time to look over new models. All reservations except those for about 700 of the $1 grand stand seats on the southeast turn have been sold, according to T. E. Myers, speedway manager. Myers expects to sell them beforo the end of the week. SO,OOO In Grand Stand General admission tickets, for the infield at the track can be secured at any time. It will bo impossible to estimate the crowd now because of this, Myers said. The grand stand seats more than 80,000. On the day following the races, fans buy their seats for the coming season, according to Myers. Hotel reservations for the weekend have been U ken for some time. Tho Chamber of Commerce convention bureau will secure rooms in private homes as in former years, said Henry Davis, bureau manager. Other persons will get accomodations in nearby towns and drive to Indianapolis on race day. Workmen have been busy since last year putting the grounds in shape. Myers declared the track never Is permitted to run down. ‘‘Whenever a board comes off the stands it is replaced immediately. The track will be in fine shape this year. Street Commissioner George Woodward is making an effort to have city street In good repair for tourists, and to have none tore up race week. Michigan St., west of Tibbs, is being put in tip-top condition, G. M. Williams, Marmon Motor Car Company president, chairman of tho lap prize committee, met with his committee Tuesday to raise SIOO for leaders of each of tho 200 laps. Firms from all over tho United States contribute. "Wo are proud to he host to tho thousands of outsiders who come in to the races. The speedway Is one of tho greatest Institutions connected with tho city. It deserves support of every resident,” declared Mayor Duvall. FEW FILING DATS LEFT James E. Berry, member of the county board of review, today announced that May 15 is the last day for filing corporation tax assessment lists. Ho said that 2,000 of the 3,000 corporations in the county have failed so far to file statements. A penalty of SIOO a day for failure, to file these statements by May 15 will be enforced, he said. TULIP GARDEN OF BASH SEED STORE 10 BE IN BLOONI Plan to Welcome Several Thousand Visitors in Next Few Weeks. The “Tulip Show Garden” of tho Bash Seed Store will bo in bloom this week, according to S. D. Bash, a member of the firm, and plans are being made to welcome several thousand visitors during the next few weeks. The garden is at ThirtyEighth and Meridian Sts. With the exception of one other garden, the Bash garden is the only one of its kind in tho United States and has attracted national Interest, Bash said. More than 250 varieties of tulips have been planted in the garden, which includes practically every known type of tulip ranging in shades from green to black. Tho bulbs were planted last October. Newest Varieties The garden contains 100 beds, each 5x7 feet. The newest varieties, j including Darwins, Mayflowering and Breeder, will bo shown. 1‘ or five years the Bash Seed Store has developed the show garden plan, making it a trial ground or experimental plot as well ns a display tract. A representative of the firm will be on the grounds each day to explain planning charts and tell of the various types of tulips in the garden. One of the newest and most progressive firms in the city selling a modern oil burner is tho Frenchlmes Company, 400 X. Illinois St. The firm lias only been established three weeks, but already has built up a good business, according to Chauncey French, one of the firm, associated with Ward It. Imes. The firm handles the Vapor Heat oil burner, manufactured in Indianapolis at the Superior Foundry. The burner, French explained, Is ono of the most adaptable to bo found on the market and can be installed in any typo of heater, furmices, stoves of all types, cook-stoves or heating. The burner has no intricate mechanical piirts and is not electrically adjusted, French explained. It is a low priced burned and quickly installed. ‘We have just completed arrangements for a very busy season of installation and aro prepared to install a good, heavy furnace of cast-iron type along with the burner in any home at a saving of considerable money,” French declared. V., May 12.—Flapjacks and bonbons caused the death of a buck deer which was enjoying tho hospitality of a farmer’s wife. During a severe storm several weeks ago, the deer became entrapped in a snow bank near tho Baxter farm. When rescued and taken to tho barn, ho seemed to weak to eat, but when tempted by hot buckwheat cakes, he regained his appetite. Four weeks of the rich fare and a dinner which Included fudge and bonbons were too much for tho buck. SAYS BUTLER IS SON BOSTON —BeSring a picture of Gen. Smedley D. Butler, John J. Baird of Dorchester appeared at the State headquarters of the American Legion here und claimed the "dry” general as his long lost son. Legion officials persuaded the man that Butler could rot bo tho John J. Baird, Jr., who disappeared following his discharge from tho Marines in December, 1924.

FURNACE FIRM’S BUSINESS HERE PICKS UP WELL Makes Installations and Requires No Down Payment Till September. The business of the Peninsular Furnace Company, 3G4 S. Meridian St., is “picking up strongly,” and tho coming weeks and months aro expected to be the busiest of the year for that company, according to A. Elllg, local manager. The company opened its branch office and sfilesroom hero Fob. 15. The Peninsular furnaces ere manufactured at Detroit and Chicago. “Wo are enjoying a very nice business and find things picking up strongly since tho cold weather has ended,” said Ellig. “We aro handling a furnace made by a company whose name is familiar with most of the older persons, since the Peninsular stoves have been known for many years. The company now is making one of the best furnaces on tho market today." The Company handles a hot-air type of furnace with rotary grates of ball-bearing type, making it easy for women to shake down ashes. The radiator is without collar. Thl3 eliminates cracked radiators. A double tire door is provided and a castiron front gives the furnace considerably more strength than many other types. A tight casing keeps practically all dust out of-tho hot-air ducts. A special water pan and an extra large ash pit are other features. The Peninsular furnace is one of the heaviest furnaces on the market, Ellig declared. The company has been offering to install furnaces now and requires no down payments until September. The firm maintains a survey and service department, and cleans furnaces for $1.50.
