Bu Times Special WASHINGTON, May 11.— William Fortune of Indianapolis will be one oe the speakers at the three-day session of the fourteenth annual meeting of the United States Chamber of Commerce, which began here Tuesday. Aspirants Give Alibis Before Irvington Club. Candidates for Republican nominations who went into the primary campaign clean and came out cleaned spoke Monday night at an "alibi-ing” session of the Irvington Republican Club, explaining their defeats. Edward ,T. Hecker presided at the meeting in the Irvington .Masonic Temple. James W. Larnkin, defeated for tho county leconler nomination criticised County Chairman Coffin and the primary election law. Dr. Samuel McCaughey, James L. Kingsbury. Arthur Renick and William W. TWO PRISONERS ESCAPE Convicts Sought by Police, State Farm Officials. Police sought two escaped convicts today. Officials of the Indiana State farm reported Charles Blue. 20, of 229 S. Keystone Ave., sentenced here on a vehicle taking charge, nnd Floyd Albright. 26, sentenced from Marlon County on a grand larceny charge, escaped from the Institution Sunday. MAY SEND ACCOUNTANT Adjutant General Wants to Get State, L’. S. Affairs Straight. Asa means of obtaining an accurate check on claims made against the State by the Federal Government the counter claims by the State against the War Department, Adjt. Gen. William H. Kershner today was considering sending an accountant to Washington. Claims of about $15,000 for Army property shortages stand against the State. Some age said to have been involved in the indictment against former Adjt. Gen. Harry B. Smith. The State holds a charge of approximately $20,000 against the War Department for National Guard property transferred to Federal service. PROTESTS RATE RAISE 0 Company Seeks to Retain "Fresent Freight Srltfdu'e on Steel. In an effort to preserve the present. freight rates on iron and steel from the Chicago district to Indianapolis. W. J. Holliday & Cos. has filed a protest with the Interstate Commerce Commission against Increases scheduled to take effect May 29. The present 15.5 cent rate is to bo raised 4 cents.'' Robert D. Armstrong. Holliday firm attorney, said tho Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce will fila a similar protest soon. SENTENCES SUSPENDED Three Receive Clemency From Criminal .Judge Collins. Roy C. Jarvis and Stephen R. Smock, both employes of the Pennsylvania Railroad, were each given suspended sentences of one year on the Indiana State Farm, Monday afternoon, when they pleaded* guilty to petit larceny before Criminal Judge James A. Webb Gilbert, for six years a field examiner with tho State board of accounts, today accepted appointment as assistant chief accountant for the public service commission, succeeding Lloyd O'Connell, who resigned May 1.
