MORE LAURELS• REVEALED FOR PAUL REVERE Famous Horseman Was Dentist, Smith, Printer and Teacher. BOSTON, April 30.—New laurels Uava been added to the indelible fame of Paul Revere, the patriotic [jockey whose midnight ride is one of the outstanding romances of American History. Data which has been unearthed here indicates that the poet Longfellow didn't tell the half of it when he confined his noted poem to a description of Paul’s dash to warn the Concord farmers. James O. Fagan, venerable director of the historic Old South Meeting House, and authority on the life and times of Paul Revere, has located documents which throw new light upon the activities of the preRevolutionary hero. These documents, found in the | town hall of Newcastle, N. H., conI tain an account of another ride of j Paul Revere which preceded the j more fatuous one by more than a >ear. According to these records the Colonial Militia had stored in or near Ft. William anil Mary a large supply of powder and ammrnunition. Revere obtained secret information

VICTOR FURNITURE CO.

that the British authorities planned to seize it. i , r So Revere rode from Boston to Newcastle, about sixty miles, and warned the patriots, who removed (he powder to safety at Durham, Ns H . Fagan has discovered other historic material indicating that Paul Revere was the original “Jack of till Trades.” Crowded into his busy life were enough •a.o<>omplishments to make the half a dozen ordinary men proud-. Here are some of Revere"* accomplishments: 1, Supplied the copper for the plates on the State House dome. T. Operated a cannon factory in Canton.. Ss Did the copper and bolt work on the frigate Constitution. (Old Iron sides). 4. Printed paper money-. 5. Conducted classes in patriotism among children. 6. Served as first president of the Charitable Mechanics Institution. 7. Moulded scores of bells, thirty 0 1 which still ring in New England churches. S. Was a skilled dentist, blacksmith. silversmith and weather-vane artist. Revere’s versatility is illustrated by two historic receipts—one which he gave to a customer in the morning for fixing his teeth, the other which he gave to the same man in the afternoon for shoeing his horse. In his spare time, Paul served as bellringer in Christ Church. COTTON WORKERS QUIT By I'nitert Press SHANGHAI. Apdil 30.—Sporadic strikes, none of them as yet of a serious nature, continue to trouble the British and Japanese cotton mill owners of Shanghai. The latest of the series ha* just

taken place in one of the largest of the British cotton mills here. Fit teen hundred men and women workers are involved. It is of interest chiefly because the methods of the labor agitators in effecting the walkout are almost Idenitical with those employed a year ago when thei-e was staged the first of the •tirkee in the Japanese-owned cotton milts Which gave impetus to the general strike and disorders of last summer.
