PLANE MAI 10 EM BIG CITY * IS PROJECTED Will Be Reality in Period From Three to Five Years, Prediction. flft Unit'd Prrta WASHINGTON, Aprll3o.—Air mail Bfrvice to every big city in the United States will be a reality within a period of from three to five years, Chase C. Gove, Deputy Second Assistant Postmaster Gen. eral told the United Press today. Gove, an expert on air mail service, pointed out that twelve routes linking fifty-four large cities by air, are now in operation or will be started by June 1, and that other lines will be advertised as soon as conditions warrant. “Commercial planes will soon be flying at night on regular schedule between all of the largo business centers where the distance can not bo covered over night by train,’’ Gove said. ’This flying will be done, for the most part, without the aid of a lighted airway. Improved Planes "It will be brought about by the use of improved types of engines, planes and navigating instruments, of which will enable a. pilot to fly Bj) given course with a high degree of safety without the aid of a Ughted airway or other la,nd marks.” Gove said that the use of twin Or triple engined ships will remove many of the hazards which now exist due to forced landings and will make it possible to use ships of a greater cruising radius and with sufficient weight carrying capacity to transport several thousand pounds. "All these Improvements will greatly reduce the cost of air transportation,” he continued. “Within h, few years there will be planes operating with sufficient cabin space to enable a clerk to accompany the mails and make a limited distribution of them en route, similar to that performed, by route agents on the railroads some sixty or seventy years ago.” Private Control Gove predicted that within n short time the government would lease the 2,665-mile transcontinental air mail route to a private operator.

COLOR WAVE CREST DUE THIS S UMMER
Pajamas Lead in Daring Design and Vivid Shade Race — Reaction Already Seen in Showing of Black Cravats.
By Rader Win get The crest of the brilliant color wave in clothing will be reached this summer, Indianapolis men’s wear dealers say. The color complex has been working on men for several years and the hot summer months should see them blossom out In all their glory. Several new color notes have been put on the market recently, and leading In the race for daring design and vivid shades is the pajama.
When the line is operated under private control passengers and freight, as well as mail will be able to traverse from coast to coast in less than thirty-six hours. . “The twelve contract routes now cover 4,620 miles and about 2,000 more miles will be advertised this year,” Gove said. “Soon the country will be mapped with a network Oi. ”al highways.” Gove said the Boston to New York route will start about May 1. Chicago to St. Louis the latter part of this month; Chicago to Dallas about May 15; Salt Lake to Los. Stripes, checks, splashes and dots, seem to be the most popular, say local merchants. Many “no button” or one button suits of pajamas are shown. One local shop shows a broad sash to be worn instead of the customary string around the waist. The tiny Alpine feather for spring hats Is merely a passing fad, merchants say. , A reaction against the brilliant hues already is seen in the showing of plain black four-in-hand cravats. Some of the ties have a design in a shiney silk or a pin stripe of white. The new neckwear goes well with plain white shirts, designers say. New canes have reached the city an< are on display in many stores. The lig. weight and light color sticks are correct cor afternoons and the heaviei bla.'k canes are proper for evening, clothiers say. The black sticks are tipped with ivory and gold and the lighter bamboos are steel tipped. Spats are passing with the warmer weather and top coats are coming into their own. Many men prefer the lightweight silk scarfs along with the top coat. The more conservatively toned pieces seem to be most popular al-

though many of the bright hued scarfs are sold. Black and grey checks and stripes are numerous. The only requisite is that the scarf must be light weight and fluffy. Merchants say men prefer this type. It has been predicted that the yellow slicker, popularized by the col-
