Promptly at 9 a. m. lie enters the Palazzo Chigi, the seat of government. The various ante rooms and waiting rooms that make up his suite are gorgeous with vases gobelin tapestries and old furniture, hut his own office is a-huge highceilinged room with no furniture except a big desk at the extreme end.

WAGE CONTRACTS END Tradesmen Have No Agreement With Employers, Wage contracts of union bricklayers, plumbers and hod carriers will expire at midnight tonight. Officials of the General Contractors’ Association, representing employers, said no agrement on wages for the ensuing year had been reached with the tradesmen. The association has before it the demand of the bricklayers for an increase for $1.50 to $1.62% an hour. Sheet metal workers, painters and decorators and hoisting engineers have been striking since the first of the month for wage increases.
