PROTEST BASE REMOVAL ILokomo Leaders Consider Remonstrating Air Squadron Change. jTu Timet Rvecial KOKOMO. Ind., April J 6.—Vigorously protecting against removal of the 113th observation squadron of the Indiana National Guard to Indianapolis, local clvlo leaders today were considering carrying a remonstrance to Governor Jackson. Chamber of Commerce officials expressed surprise at the move, In view of recent announcement that the rental on Fa.gley Field, where the unit is stationed, will be paid In advance. "Kokomo has been treated rather shabbily," declared Chamber President W. .T. Gollghtly. Recent conferences with Adjutant General William H. Kershner, which he denied had been held, let to action by the chamber pledging funds to retain the squadron.

PETITION INVESTIGATED Widening of W. Michigan St. Asked by Residents. George G. Schmidt, city engineer, today Is Investigating a petition of citizens, to widen ten feet of W. Michigan St., from White River to Holmes Ave. The board of works Wednesday authorized permanent improvement of Abbott St., from Weßt to California Sts.; Cruft St., from Boyd St., to State Ave., and Charles St., from Morris St. to Ray St. PRISONER ESCAPES Police today watched for Sherman Rector, 45, who escaped from Lebanon, Ind., deputy sheriffs late Wednesday. He was held awaiting trial on a charge of grand larceny. A deputy took Rector to a barber shop near the jail and he escaped, according to the word received.
