DECLARATIONS OF CANDIDATES ARE TABULATED Secretary of State's Office Held Open Late —Some Unopposed. • Attaches in the office of Secretary of State Frederick E. Schortemeyer today began the task of tabulating the declarations of candidacy for the various congressional, legislative and judicial offices to be fdled at the November election, Schortemeier held the offices open until Saturday midnight to take care of the late filings. Two Republicans and eight Democrats automatically were nominated for Congress, as no others of their party had filed for the office. Those nominated by default were: Republicans—Albert H. Vestal. THREE PERSONS INJURED Motorcycle aiwl Bicycle Raders Hurt When Struck by Cars. Marion Cooley. 1860 Shelby St., is held today on a charge of driving on the left, side of the street after a. motorcycle he was riding crashed into an auto driven by Glendon Maynard, 1437 Olive St., at Shelby and .Beecher, Sts., Saturday. Cooley’s leg was injured. Louis Raglan, 13, of 2647 Northwestern Ave., i# in city hospital suffering from a broken collar bone received Saturday when the bicycle he was riding collided with an auto at Seventeenth St. and Capitol Ave. Elizabeth Stovall, Negro, 23, of 2450 Paris Ave.. received cuts about the head when struck by an auto. AGAINST AUTO LICENSES Transfer and Warehouse Group / Favors Higher Gas Tax. A Statewide campaign for the abolishment of motor vehicle licensing and the substitution of a higher gasoline tax was begun today by the Indiana Transfer and Warehouserpen’s Association. The gasoline tax, executive committee members contend, is a more equitable means of allocating the cost of road construction. Association officials indorsed Ward B. Hiner for the United States Senate Plans were laid for a conference in .Tune to settle the long misunderstanding between Indiana and Ohio truck operators. BELIEVE THEFTS SOLVED Three Negroes Thought to Have Stolen Electrical Fixtures. Police believe the arrest of three Negroes today will solve the theft of electrical fixtures valued at hundreds of dollars during the past several months. William Higdon, 39, Negro, 546 E. Market St., charged with malicious trespass and entering a house to commit a felony is alleged to have stolen fixtures from a vacant house .it 602 W. North St. Robert Geeth, 16, Negro. 410 Darnell St.. and Clarence Russell. 18. Negro, 1303 N. Senate Ave., are held under similar charges. YEGGS, HOLD-UP MEN ARE BUSY OVER WEEKEND Security Company Robbed —Total Loot Reported to Be $1,212.50. Yeggs and hold-up men were active over the week-end. Four safes, were robbed and three persons held up. Police said loot totaled $1,212.50. Capt. Louis Johnson and squad were detailed to check hotels, poolrodms and stations for suspicious out-of-town persons, in connection with tho safe cracking wave. There will be no w-holesale arrests in poolrooms, as persons from other cities are suspected, said Chief Claude F. Johnson. Combination on the American Motor Parts Company safe, 802 Washington Ave., was worked Sunday night and $35 taken. Union Insurance Company of Indiana, 143 E. Ohio St., reported SIOO taken from the safe. The inner door was battered open. Three Doors Jimmied Office and safe at the Joseph Solatken, junk shop, 410 W. North St., were ransacked, but nothing taken. Saturday night yeggmen entered the Columbia Securities Company, 152 N. Delaware St., and battered the safe. To gain entrance they jimmied three rear doors. The combination on the safe was battered off and SI,OOO taken, according to Ben Sagalowsky, 607 E. Maple Rd.. president. Detectives noted Ihe similarity in the robbery of tho Morrison Cloak and Suit House, 4 W. Washington St., a week ago, when $5,000 was taken. Officers said the yeggs are experts Two ‘hold-up men accosted Elden Smith, 131 S. Ritter Ave.; and Miss Eva Hursh. 237 S. Audubon Rd., in the 5600 block University Ave., and took $6. Highway Garage Entered No trace has been found of the man w’ho attacked Charles Meldrum, 265 Minkner St., Saturday and robbed him of S2O at Market and Missouri Sts. Edward Petty, night watchman at the State Highway garage, located at West and Market Sts., found the tdace had been entered. The bandits left without loot. The home of Erie Pusstull, 30 W. Tenth St., was entered and a manicure set and hand bag valued to S3O taken. While Mrs. Caroline Tamm, 720 E. Thirteenth St., and guests were playing cards, a burglar raised a bedroom window and took the purse of Mrs. Anna Speekman, 409 W. Thirtieth St. It contained $17.50.
