QUIET ENDING FOR ELECTION • CONTEST SEEN Senate Committee Expected to Dismiss Bursum Case. Bv Times Special WASHINGTON, April 2.—0n0 of the three election contests before the Senate is abou tto oome to a quiet conclusion. Within the next few weeks, In all probability, the Senate Elections Committee will dismiss the contest of Holm O. Bursum against Senator Sam G. Bratton, Democrat, of New Mexico. When Bursum, the father of much pension legislation, was defeated in 1924, G. A. R. veterans raised a fund of nearly $20,000 for him to contest the election. He filed lengthy charges of alleged irregularities in every county of New Mexico. However, his case was weakened by the fact that a similar contest by a Republican, against the Democrat who was elected Governor, failed to unseat the Governor, and actually added to his majority. The Senate Elections Committee examined Bursum’s complaint and Bratton’s answer last December and let the matter rest. Recently it was rumored that the

Ducks Were Ducks Only in Quacks Persons in the Union Station were amused the other day in watching the ‘‘embarrassment" of a young* man and woman, with two suit cases, waiting for a train. Spectators believed there were several baby ducks in one suit case, for at frequent intervals, muffled ‘‘Quack, quacks” were heai-d. The young lady blushed and giggled and the young man shook the case violently, “Been visiting their country relatives,” a bystander observed. Presently their train prilled In, the ducks became more noisy, and the young man and woman, gathering their bags, passed out into the train sheds. Two persons who followed them were amazed when they were seated in the train to see the young man calmly remove a toy with a rubber bulb attached from a suit case. He “quacked" the toy several times. “More fun than a box of monkeys,” he remarked. committee was ready to dismiss the whoi,e ca-se, and this was substantiated by a last-minute effort on the part of Bursum’s attorney to convince the committee he can produce new evidence. Upon vigorous plea of the attorney, twenty days’ extension of time was granted the Bursum forces. Unless they succeed in strengthening their case, the matter will be dropped without a recount of ballots.
