SCHOOL WORK IN COUNTY TO BE CHECKED-UP Examination for Eighth Grade Pupils Set April 17. A "checking up’’ of the work in Marion County schools outside of Indianapolis was requested in a letter mailed today by Lee Swails, county school superintendent, to all Instructors. Swails said the diploma examination for eighth grade pupils will be held in the various townships, April 17. No student will be permitted to take the examination who not sustained a general average of 75 per cent without falling below 65 per cent in any one subject, said Swails. The pupil’s record in attendance and deportment must be acceptable, also. Wants Full Time "I doubt the wisdom of recom- I mending any pupil to take the ex- J amination who has missed as many j as ten days or more in the last | school year,” said Swails. “Full j time and work well done makes for i efficiency in school work.” Swails advised all teachers to be j conservative in the promotion of students of all grades. “When a j pupil completes a common school I course he must have had eight years j of work creditably done,” he said, j “When he completes a high school j course, he also must have had four j years of work beyond the grade I school creditably done.” Exam April 22 and 23 The semi-annual grade and high school examination will be held j April 21 and 22.
