MAYOR SIGNS ZONING BILL, GOES SOUTH Constitutionality of Ordinance Segregating Races to Be Contested. Mayor Duvall today is in the South and does not have to face personally the political complications caused by his signature of an ordinance zoning -white and Negro residential districts. Duvall, just before signing the measure Wednesday, announced he would take a business trip in the South. He is said to have left for Louisiana. Meanwhile, local members of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People said immediate steps to contest the ordinance’s constitutionality would follow. The ordinance would prevent persons of one race from living in districts occupied chiefly by those of another race, but a grandfather’s clause protects rights of those who have previously established homes. URGES SCHOOL FOR POLITICS Ogden Makes Proposal for Y. M. C. A. Class. James M. Ogden, former president and director of the Y. M. C. A., will propose opening of a school of politics in connection with “Y” classes, he announced in an address before the “Y” Bible Investigation Club Wednesday night. “It is time -our youths received scientific instruction and gave serious thought to the running of our Government, since the kind of government we have affects us as vitally as any other thing that touches our existence,” Ogden said. “The Chamber of Commerce and the noonday luncheon clubs can do no finer service to their community than to assist in such a work.” NEW I. PLAN MAY DAY AT FAIRVIEW Butler Activities on New Site May 21. The May day celebration of Butler University will take place this year at Fairview May 21, according to decision of student and faculty committees. The program includes a breakfast and athletic events in the morning, the pageant in the afternoon and installation of Womans League officers. A dance wjll be held at night. Virginia Curtis, president of Woman's League, is general chairman. Her sub-chairman are Elizabeth Anderson, breakfast; Irma Ulrich, pageant, and Sarah Frances Downs, dance. The pageant was written by Dorothy Knisely and Dorothy Stephenson. Miss Evelyn Butler, dean of women, is the faculty supervisor of Woman’s League activities. Daily of Indianapolis has filed a declaration at the Statehouse as Republican candidate for renomination. Dailey, an attormy, was defeated in a close race for president pro tem. of the Senate in 1925. He has been active in Republican politics many years. SENATOR PLANS TOUR Robinson Speaks at Terre Haute Club Luncheon. Senator Arthur R. Robinson will begin a ten-day speaking tour of Indiana April 10, it was announced at his headquarters at the Severin today. Robinson was to speak at noon before the Terre Haute Kiwanis j Club and to return immediately to Washington.
