Careful observation of the beetle’s habits show his preference for high, wooded sections of territory, Wallace said. With a weakness for beans, the insect literally chews his way through fields of bean vines. A magnesium arsenate-lime spray has proved the most effective remedy, Wallace said. A close watch is being maintained by Wallace for the European corn borer, now about thirty-five miles east of the Indiana-Ohio line. PETRIFIED OYSTERS WINSLOW, Ariz. —Charles Thomas, a Winslow newspaper man, located an odd mineral claim, a bed ol “petrified” oysters and clams, found by him 20 miles from here, in what seems to have been the bed of a prehistoric lake. There are “millions of tons” of them.
