Haskett, board of safety president, today, following refusal of the State board for registration of engineers to issue licences to W. A. Osbcui, assistant commissioner, and W. D. Lee, structural engineer. Osbon and I->ee are holding office in violation of the law which requires their positions go to registered engineers. The board was to discuss the situation today. Puzzle a Day

The radio broadcasting station in Shenandoah, lowa, recently made a survey to discover the number of different sets used by their enormous audience. This contest result was secret, but proved that a great quantity of different sets were in constant use. But I have heard that the exact quantity is just as much short of 650 as its quadruple is greater than j 650, and that the digits in this number total 8. Do you suppose you could discover the number of different makes in use in that vicinity? Last puzzle answer:

R PER NAVAL DELIVER BESET RAN L J

This is the completed word diamond. The definitions match in the following fashion: "Per" means “by”; “Naval” means nautical”; “Deliver” means to “release”; “Beset’ means “to besiege”; "Ran” means “hastened”; “Neb”’ means “the tip”; “Paler” means “more palid”; ‘Revisal” means “revision”; “Raven” means "a black bird”; ‘Let” means “to rent.” The easiest way.to solve a puzzle of this kind is to discover the three-letter words first and place them in the proper positions. Then fill in the rest of the words. SHOWERS ARE FORECAST Cloudy Skies Predicted for St. Patrick Parade, Wednesday. During the first half of March, the mercury has had a tendency to remain below normal most of the time. In fact, the March lion has asserted himself quite noticeably during the first half of the month, bureau officials said, citing the many snow and rainfalls which have visited the city. On Mayor Duvall is thus placed the issue of vetoing the ordiance. The ordinance has a clause to prevent persons who have previously acquired property from being dispossessed. “Passage of this ordinance will stabilize real estate values, encour age churches and give the honest citizens and voters renewed faith in their city officials,” R.
