Stray Animals Once Brought Gerk Money Losche Tells of Farmer Taking Hog to His Office.

The lost and found columns of the modem newspaper have robbed the county clerk of one source of revenue, according: to Albert H. Losche, county clerk. Years ago when someone would find a lone pig, dog, horse or cow straying on his premises he would report It to the county clerk, who would enter the find In a book titled “Trade Marks and Estrays.” The clerk would charge 50 cents for the entry, plus the cost of advertising the matter in the newspapers. Today persons finding lost or strayed cattle generally go directly to the newspaper office and advertise. Losche said several years ago a farmer living outside the citss limits brought a hog, which he had found, into his office. The farmer told Losche he was informed to bring all animals found to the county clerk, who would take care of them. However, Losche said he had no place to keep the hog, so advised the farmer to keep it until someone claimed it. If within' a reasonable length of time the hog was unclaimed it was the farmer's, Losche said, providing a means had been used to find the owner. In the book in Losche’s office the first strayed animal entered was a

Engine Should Be Ready for Traffic Motor Club Official Says Speed Often Is Important.

Be ready to go, before you start out in traffic, is the advice of the Hoosler Motor Club safety department. “This advice should be followed closely during March, with its rapid and wide variance in temperature.” says Todd Stoops, club secre-tary-manager, “for the engine will not function properly until it is warmed up. “Accidents reported to the club show that many motorists will start into traffic as soon os the engine starts, with the result that the motor will stall, spit or splutter to (he discomfort of the driver and other motorists in the rear. "Oftimes speed and plenty of it is

more Important than good brakes, for the motorist must get out of the way, and quickly. But if he starts off into traffic with a cold motor he may be sure that he will have no speed or power if needed. He cannot get out of the way of oncoming traffic if he makes a left turn; neither will he be able to ‘step onthe gas’ and get out of the way of an oncoming street car, interurban or train. It is just as dangerous to drive into traffic with a cold engine as it is to drive with defective brakes. “While it is true that the choke will enable the motorist to start his motor and drive away many times with plenty of power and speed, yet the motorist who forms this habit is likely to forgot his choker whin the engine warms up and dilute his engine oil with gas, besides the waste of gasoline and the fouling of the engine. The best practice is to warm the engine before starting, then close the choker.” OUTPUT VERY LARGE EDMONTON, Alberta —A tentative statement on Alberta's production of petroleum for 1925 shows that the 1925 output in the province alone was greater than the production for all Canada in 1924.
