FAVORS CO-ED UNIVERSITIES (Vice President of U. of C. Defends College Lover. Bn United Press BERKELEY, Cal., March 11.— ‘The college lover has a stanch defender here in the person of Walter SI. Hart, vice president of the University of California. Statistics show that co-educational universities are exactly twice as popular as those attended only by one sex, Hart says. Proving that students prefer a little love along with books and classes, his statistics are: “Out of 193 universities and col* leges in the acepted lists of the Association of American Universities, only six technical schools, eight universities and twenty-seven colleges are limited to men’s attendance, and only twenty-eight for women. “At the same time, twenty-eight universities, eight technical schools and eighty-eight colleges are coeducational. “Each kind of institution has advantages and disadvantages, from an educational standpoint. But, aa for popularity, our national answer to the question can be inferred from the figures.” MUSICIAN-EDITOR DIES Bn United Press FT. WAYNE, Ind., March 11.—A widow and one daughter today survived Eugene Troendle, 53, musician and editor, who succumbed to an attack of apoplexy yesterday. A Famous Man
The originator of Dr. Pierce’s Golden Medical Discovery for the blood, as well as the "Favorite Prescription’’ for women, was Dr. Ray V. Pierce, a practicing physician in Western Pennsylvania. ’He early moved to Buffalo, N. Y., and established The Invalids’ Hotel, then he put up his home remedies in the World’s Dispensary, where they were carefully prepared from roots, barks and herbs, and placed them with druggists all over the United States. Dr. Pierce’s Discovery, for the blood, has been sold in larger quantities by druggists all over the United States than any other medicine. Dr. Pierce’s Golden Medical Discovery is a tonic in its effect on the stomach and digestive apparatus; an alterative in its actions on the blood, liver nnd skin. It increases the appetite, stimulates the digestion, enriches the blood, clears the skin of eruptions and blemishes, and makes both men and women feel as they did when the yere young and care free. Ask your nearest druggist for Doctor Pierce’s family medicines, in tablets or liquid or send 10 cents for a trial package of any of Dr. Pierce’s Medicines in tablet form, to Doctor Pierce’s Clinic, in Buffalo, N. SUPERSTITIONS OF EGYPT TOLD Women, Seeking Male Babies Step Over Mummies. CAIRO, March 11.—“ Walk around a mummy and you’ll have good luck. Step over It, and you’ll have better luck still.” This is one of the superstitions brought out of Egypt by a party of excavators leturnlng from an exploration expedition In the heart of the “mummy country." They found that amongst the native Egyptians almost any object yapors stop jf^Colds WAPORS * reach a cold directly because they are bieathed right into the air passages and lungs. It is for this reason that Vicks Vapo Rub brings such quick relief. When rubbed over throat and chest at bedtime: — It is vaporized by the body heat and inhaled, while you sleep, right to the affected parts, loosening the phlegm and easing the difficult breathing. At the same time it acts through the skin (like a poultice or plaster) “drawing out” the pain and soreness. Most colds yield by morning to this double action of Vicks. This, the Egyptians, like most Orientl peoples, consider to be a matter of utmost importance, no matter what may be the standing of the family. “We found,’’ said a member of the party, “that mummies are considered to be especially powerful charms In this connection, but not all mummies. Just what reasons govern the choice of a mummy tor this purpose is a mystery we were unable to solve. We found for instance that sometimes the most battered remains were preferred to other mummies that were in good condition. “Women either walk around the mummy or step over It for a certain
