SCHOOL BOARD WRANGLES OVER CUT IN FORCE Plans for Building No. 9 Approved—Architects and Engineers Named. When the dismissal of James O’Brien, George Steger and Jack Scherrer from the school industrial force was announced at the board meeting Tuesday night, Fred Johnson, minority member, asked why O'Brien was dismissed. The men, according to Jacob Hilkene, superintendent of buildings and grounds, were released because they could not perform'their duties. Johnson asked Carl W. Burton, assistant superintendent, why O’Brien was dismissed. “Hilkene told you,” Eurton replied. “You probably want to find out for the same reason you fired George Rickes, former business director.” "Can’t a member of the board ask an employe a question any more?” Johnson inquired. The board approved plans for erection of School 9 at a cost of $193,000.

ARRESTED AS ROBBER Clarence Gorman, 27, of 3311 E. Michigan St., was arrested today by detectives on charges of burglary and petit larceny. He was charged with robbing a grocery at 5221 E.
