LAMBERT EXPECTS RATTLE Purdue Coach Fears Purple Fray—Seven Seniors End Net Careers. jffff Times Special LAFAYETTE, Ind., March 5. Furdue’s basketball team will wind Tip Its 1926 schedule Saturday night et Northwestern, with the certainty that if a, victory results the team will at least tie for first place in the most hectic basketball race in the history of the Big Ten. The Purple were nosed out by three points at Lafayettte early in the season and Coach Lambert has considerable respect for the prowess of the Purple five, judging from the hard drills through which he has put his team this week. Seven members of the Purdue squad, three of them regulars, will appear for the last time in a Purdue uniform, at the Northwestern tilt. They are: Capt. George Spradling, Frankfort; Paul Neuman, Lafayette; Carl Cramer, Angola; Melvin Taube, Detroit; E. F. Pierce, New Albany; Carl Rigsby, Anderson, and M. L, Lugar, Indianapolis. Spradling, the Big Ten’s leading scorer, will close a brilliant court career, and the loss of Neuman and (Tamer will be felt keenly next year. The other senior members of the squad have contributed their share various times during the season. Purdue, if victorious, will be a *t.le holder fqr the third time since 3919, when Coach Lambert came to Purdue. With the exception of one year all of Lambert's team have finished within the first division, and In 1921 and 1922 were champions.

PREP MEET Loyola to Stage Annual Catholic Tourney. Bp United Press CHICAGO, March 6.—Plans practically are completed at Loyola University for the third annual national Catholic lnterscholastlo basketball tournament to be held at Loyola March 18-21, Inclusive. Catholic schools from all over the country will compete In the tournament. Invitations will be extended as soon as all sectional championships have been determined and records examined. WALKER TEAM IS LINED UP Golf Captain Gardner Says No Subs Will Be Carried on Trip. Bp United Press CHICAGO, March 6.—No substitutes will be carried on the United States Walker Cup golf team which will leave New York, May 5, according to Robert A. Gardner, captain, who announced all of the regulars chosen have consented to play. Besides Gardner the other regulars are Bobby Jones and Watts Gunn of Atlanta: Francis Oulmet and Jess Guilford of Boston; George Von Elm of Los Angeles; Jess Sweetser of New York, and Roland ' Mackenzie of Washington, D. C. In case something prevents any of the reigulars from going, alternates selected are Max Marston and D. Clark Cochran of Philadelphia; George Rotan of San Antonio; H. Chandler Egan of Medford, Ore., and Harrison R. Johnston of St. Paul. The team which leaves here will not play until May 24, when the British amateur tournament starts at Muirfleid. This will give the American players time to brush up on their games on English links, before the tournament play starts. Gardner said matches also have been arranged with teams from Oxford and Cambridge universities and that the Americans also will compete In the St. George's vase tourney.

Bp United Press CHICAGO, March s.—Somewhere word leaked out that Jack Dempsey, ring-idle heavyweight champion, was to give an exhibition at the Chicago Athletic Association today, and as a result the ring-idle champion may be idle some more. Jack arrived here this morning, accompanied by his wife, Estelle Taylor Dempsey, and his regular retinue of sparring partners, press agents, etc. The heavyweight champion was to be the honor guest at an association luncheon. The sparring partners, et cetera weren’t to be any honor guests, but It was said their work would come in afterward when'Jack donned the gloves to poke some setup on the jaw. Illinois has a rather old law which forbid* boxing matches. Chicago is in Illinois and the Chicago A. A. is in Chicago. So, maybe Dempsey’s sparring partners won't have to work and the champion may remain idle while In Chicago.

March 5. —Permission to proceed with arrangements for a heavyweight championship match between Jack Dempsey and Gene Tunney was expected to be asked by Tex Rickard at today's meeting of the boxing commission. Rickard was expected to give the commission his reasons for knowing that a match between Dempsey and Harry Wills, recognized challenger, cannot be made. 1 e also planned to suggest that Wi,.s has forfeited his standing as the first ranking challenger by signing an agreement with Floyd Fitzsimmons, Chicago promoter, against the orders of the commission, and that he has lost prestige by his refusal to accept matches with capable opponents.
