5,425 SCHOOL BUILDINGS ARE USED IN STATE Average Salaries of Teachers Highest in Cities. During the 1924-1925 school year 5,425 school building* werjfe in use in Indiana, according to the annual report of Dr. Henry Noble Sherwood, State superintendent of public instruction. Os this number 4,515 were used by townships, 151 by towns and 759 by cities. Only twenty buildings were devoted exclusively to kindergartens, whereas 3,783 were used to house elementary grades. Elementary and high school grades were combined in 722 buildings, 600 of which were in townships and 122 in towns and cities. Thirty-eight buildings in the State now are being used exclusively for junior high schools, *twenty-six being located in cities. The average salaries of the teachers of Indiana show that city teachers receive more than those in either the township or town. In the elementary division, the city’s aver* age salary is $1,394.82; the township, $913.15, and the town, $1,054.26. The average salaries for junior high school teachers are: City, $1,552.24; town, $1,268.75, and township, $1 ,- 285.80. Median salaries for senior high school teachers are: City, sl,777.20; township, $1,316.09, and town, $1,390.19. Average salaries of high school principals are as follows: City, $2,475; town, $1,818.18, and townshtip, $1,825.87. Salaries of elementary principals vary from a $1,781.87 average in Cities to $1,318.75 in towns. The median salaries of vocational teachers are: $1,912.50 in the city and $1,625 in the town. The median salary for kindergarten teachers in the city is $1,406.81.

Organization of a State speakers’ bureau, as an adjunct of the Indiana American Legion, was complete today, following a meeting of approximately 175 legionnaires Tuesday in the office of Governed Jackson, chairman.
