STREAMS LEAVE BANKS AND RUN OVER HIGHWAYS • Traffic Blocked on Some Roads in South Part of State. Maintenance problems of the State highway department increased in the last few days because rains and thaws caused streams to leave their banks and overflow some sections of roads. Specific cases were chiefly in southern Indiana, where some of the older roads w r ere inundated and traffic blocked. A small section of Rd. 1, under water for two days between Columbus and Seymour did not prevent traffic going through, but Rd. 4 was blocked near Medora, and Rd. 26, east of Bloomington with no available detours. The department's traffic bulletin today said that blocked sections would be in use by the last of the week. Less difficulty than in previous years is being experienced for heavy hauling on thawing gravel and stona surfaces. So fab few arrests have been made for violating the three-ton maximum road limit regulation established by the commission to prevent surfaced damage when roads are soft. Road conditions along highways entering Indianapolis are set forth in the bulletin as follows: Rd. 1 (New Albany, Indianapolis. MR. FtXIT Promiscuous Use of Auto Horn Brings Complaint.

The promiscuous use of the automobile horn is found rather objectionable, according to a letter Mr. Fixit received today. DEAR MR. FIXIT: Is there an ordinance prohibiting unnecessary use of automobile horns? My husband works nights, and just as he falls asleep in bed some kind fellow who takes another fellow to work stops in front of the apartment and for, ten or fifteen minutes it is terrible until the person hears him and comes out. MRS. HOUSEWIFE. Mr. Fixit suggests you try to adjust the trouble by appealing to the fair play of your neighbor; then, if no results follow, report the fellow to the police. There is an ordinance against unnecessary noises. From another far off State the Hoosier Traveling Man re-enters the list of contributors. He is still worrying about traffic laws and submits the following suggestion. “The traffic policemen in Turkey have invented anew way of curing the automobile speeding habit. When they see a car coming at a speed in excess of the limit they toss out into the road a large board studded with nails, points upward. If the driver can’t or won’t stop before his car comes to the plank, he will soon afterward.” What say, reader??
