HOOSIER GIRLS LIKE STUDY OF DOMESTIC ARTS > —_ Most Popular Scientific Course in Indiana High Schools. Os all the scientific courses offered in Indiana high schools, none is more popular than domestic science, it is disclosed in the annual report of Dr. Henry Noble Sherwood, State superintendent of public instruction. That Iloosier • girls are eager to learn the rudiments of home-making is borne out in the fact that more high schools are offering domestic science than any other scientific study. Feel Encouraged The figures, naturally, are the anathema of professional pessimists, who declare Indiana girlhood is “going to the bowwows, because the young women can’t and won’t learn to cook and keep house.” "When we find our high school girls taking an interest in homemaking, we feel encouraged about the future of the home,” Sherwood said. Dojnestic science is being offered in 477 different schools in the'State, whereas physics, formerly the most popular scientific course, is taught in 450 schools. Other sciences are taught in the following numbers of Schools: Manual Training, 349; rnotany, 346; physical geography, 253; agriculture, 227; biology, 114, and chemistry, 10$. Manual Training Expensive The most expensively-taught science, in the matter of necessary equipment, is manual training, an average of $715 being required to equip a single high school. Domestic science costs an average of $l4O a school, the least expensive of all. Miss Mary Beeman, State supervisor of homo economics, says the course is popular because girls are looking forward to marriage, and because a complete home economics program is offered. G.O.P. COUNCIL BREAK LIKELY Ordinance to Abolish Offices Surprise. The first break in the ranks of the six Republican councilmen ap-' peared likely today on the question of the ordinance introduced by Councilman Claude E. Negiey to abolish the offices of fire prevention chief and stenographer. A special meeting to consider the issue will be held later this week, it was said. WORLD FLIER TO RESIGN Lieutenant Wade to Lead Polar Expedition Flight. Bu United Press NEW Y'ORK, Feb. 17. Lieut. Leigh Wade, army arcund-the-world flier, intends to resign from the service to lead a polar expedition flight next summer. With him will be Lieut. H. H. Ogden, another around-the-world flier, who has already resigned from the Army. Wealthy alumni of six eastern universities are said to be backing the expedition which will have as its goal the claiming of the supposed polar continent for the United States. A trip to the north pole also may be attempted. Plans call for sailing from Seattle, Wash., June, 8. BUTLER HEAD TO • TALK Dr.* Robert Aley Will Address Houston, Texas, Organizations. Dr. Robert J.
