WARNS AGAINST SUDDEN BRAKING Help Save Tires, Says Motor Club Secretary. All motorists were warned against sudden braking of their cars today by Todd Stoop, Hoosier Motor Club secretary. This bad practice, it was pointed out, causes the wear that can be avoided if the driver only will try to make earlier preparation for stopping. Since parking oflen is the source of tire evils, the A. A. A. cautions car owners against setting the machine too close to the curb or driving against it, thereby squeezing the sides of the tires. The services of affiliated motor clubs are being enlisted by the A. A. A. In the task of instructing motorists how they can assist In stabilizing the crude rubber market. “The local car owners and users can assist, their Government by saving 25 per cent of the quantity of rubber ordinarily consumed,” declared Stoops. “Steps have been taken to enlist the services of the more than 770 motor clubs affiliated with the Jl. A. A. to the end that over a million members who are - daily car users will know how to save tires and be in a position to pass the information along to others. Rules for saving Jhis valuable commodity are being formulated, and several Important suggestions have been made by members of the committee appointed by the A. A. A. to study this matter.”

PASTOR QUITS PULPIT Evansville Preacher to Go Into Business In Florida. Bu United Press EVANSVILLE, Ind„ Feb. 12. The Rev. Henry Marcotte of Ard more, Pa., has accepted a call to the pulpit of the Grace Memorial Presbyterian Church here it was an nounced today. The Rev. Marcotte succeeds the Rev. Hamilton Hymes, who resigned to go into business in Florida.

STATE TO SELL CALUMET LAH Bids on 150 Acres Will Be Opened March 20. Preparations are being made by Edward St>ray, State land clerk, for another sale of meander land in the Calumet district, of northern Indiana about March 20. Eids will be opened on approximately 150 acres of semi-submerged land in Lake and Marshall counties. Because of the rapid expansion in the Calumet district the last few months, recent sales of Lake County meander land have been marked by spirited bidding. Some Lake County land has brought as much as SI,OOO an acre, while the least desirable has averaged more than S3OO an acre. According to Spray, approximately 6,000 acres of meander land remain in possession of the State. Prospects are good, he said, for'disposal o* the remainder within a few years. Spray estimated the remaining acreage should net the State at leaßt $250,000. which will go into the State common school fund for distribution among counties. Remaining tracts lie in Lake, Starke, LaPorte, St. Joseph and Marshall Counties.

Test died suddenly from a hemorrhage believed to have resulted from being gassed during the World War.
