SCOTTISH RITE CONTRACTS TO BE LET SOON Working Plans for Cathedral Are Progressing Rapidly. v Contracts for the excavation and foundation work on the Scottish Kite Cathedral to be erected in Meridian St., north of North St., will be let soon, it was announced today by George Schreiber, architect. He said working plans for the cathedral are progressing rapidly. It is expected that the construction of the structure, to cost about $2,000,000, will take three years. When the project is completed and equipped it is expected to have a valuation of about $3,000,000. The fee simple on the site is owned by the Scottish Rite of Indianapolis. The building will be designed in pure Gothic style with an exterior of Indiana limestone. The building will be 400 feet in length on Meridian St., and about 175 feet deep. Kitchen and dining room facilities will be on the basement door, with a large cafeteria on the mezzanine floor. The first floor of the structure will be given over to reception and reading rooms and library. An auditorium with a seating capacity of 2,000 persons will occupy the second floor. There also will be a large ballroom, with balcony, having a capacity of 2,000 persons. WIFE TAKES POISON Mrs. Emma Barekman, 19, Tries to End Life—Reconciliation Attempted. Mrs. Emma Barekman, 19, of 229 Dickson St., was taken to city hospital at 12:30 a. m. today suffering from the effects of poison taken, police say, with suicidal Intent. Mrs. Barekman was found at the room .of her husband, Chester Barekman, 42$ Spring St. They are separated, police say. Barekman said she came to the room and drank the poison, after efforts for a reconciliation were unavailing. She said she was despondent.

Although it is generally conceded that men dodge the service whenever poßslble the women w’ant at least the same chance men have to turn the opportunity down. Following recent action of the State Supreme Court in reaffirming its former decision that Illinois women are not eligible for jury service, six feminist bodies announced they would appeal to the Legislature for a law to legalize women jurors.
