INDIANA ROADS ARE PROTECTED DURING THAWS Signs Posted —Heavy Hauling Prohibited on Several Highways. For protection of gravel and stonesurfaceci roads during thawing weather, signs have been posted limiting gross loads to three tons, notices have been served On truck and bus operators, and employes of the State highway department have been instructed to enforce the load limit regulation, it was announced today. Heavy hauling is prohibited at this time on the following highways: Rd. 5 between Vincennes and Willow Valley, and from Hazelton to Oaktown on Rd. 10. Rd. 12 between Vincennes and Spencer. Rd. 18 between Rockport and junction of 16; between Gentryville or Dale and between Huntlngburg and Jasper. Impassable north of Chrisney. Rd. 28 between Rodgers and Sandy Hook, and from Washington north of Junction of Rd. 4. Rd. 40 between Windslow and Oakland City, and from French Lick and new concrete pavement lying to the west. Surface conditions on' roads entering Indianapolis are set forth in the State highway bulletin as follows: Kd. 1 (New Albany, Indianapolis, South Bend. WASHINGTON, Feb. s.—Close cooperation between State, county and city administrations is gradually eliminating the annual winter problem of snowbound highways which p to a few years ago prevented expeditious movement of mails, express and ordinary travel. With the extension of ha: ■! surface roads, now largely depended upon for short haul passenger, freight and express, movements by truck lines in practically every part of the Country, most of the states within the “snow belt” have completely organized the, work of .removing snow as a traffic obstruction during the long winter months. OVER 3,000,000 VETERANS FILE DATA FOR BONUS Certificates Issued for Obligations Totaling Three Billion Dollars. Since passage of the bonus law 11,655 veterans, who had rhade their applications for insurance certificates, have died and their heirs have received $11,969,249, according to Brig. Gen. Frank T. Hines, director Os the Veterans’ Bureau. General Hines estimates 200,000 certificates will be issued during 1926, and probably 100,000 next year. The bulk work under the new law Is over and hundreds of temporary employes who were engaged in preparing the bonus certificates have been released. - The reiil administrative difficulties. however, have not yet commenced. according to General Hines. These troubles will start after Jan. 1, next year, when veterans will be enabled to go to banks and borrow money on the loan value of their policies. The loan value per dollar a|her three years Is 12 cents plus. When veterans fail to repay their loans the banks will come to the Veterans’ Bureau to collect. The Veteran’s’ Bureau then will hold the certificate for the veteran, who has about seventeen years thereafter to pay' off his obligation.
