TIDE TURNS IN MUSCLE SHOALS ‘GRAB’ FIGHT Southern Manufacturers Suddenly Shift Their Position. Timet Wathlwrttm Bureau. ltl New York Armue. WASHINGTON, Feb. 2.—The tide is turning in the Muscle Shoals fight. Southern manufacturers and business men have Joined In the effort to prevent the seizing of the Government project by private interests, according to telegrams received by Senator Nonrls, Nebraska. Several weeks ago Norris warned that two large eastern manufacturers would attempt to grab the $160,000,000 power project as soon as the Federal Government opened x to bids. That warning seems to nave marKed the turning point in the southern viewpoint. thin E. McGugin, attorney for the Tennessee Manufacturers’ Association, has wired Norris that his association is sending copies of the warning to every Chamber of Commerce in the South, with a personal letter from John Edgerton, National Manufacturers’ Association president, “commending your efforts against the grab proposed.” Praises Courage McGugin continues: ‘‘No Ynan in public life has shown more courage and ability in conducting a fight than you on this question. Regard-' less of how Muscle Shoals is operated, I respectfullly suggest that the resolution now pending before your Senate Agriculture Committee be amended so as to provide that power from Muscle Shoals not needed solely for national defense or fertilizer be distributed to the public at lowest reasonable cost.” Edgerton has tdso wired Norris urging a similar amendment and pointing out that “west Tennessee, Mississippi and other southern regions are without water power and there is no other possible source.” W. H. Proctor, Georgia State Chamber of Commerce president, has wired indorsement of the Tennessee viewpoint. And the Mississippi State Legislature has wired suddenly demanding that Congress insure that some of the power generated at Muscle Shoals be distributed in Mississippi. Farmer Acta The first real break in the opposition to Norris came early in the week when Samuel H. Thompson, president of the American Farm Bureau Federation, wired from Chicago urging that the word “lease” be stricken from the pending resolution and that the proposed Muscle Shoals disposal committee be directed merely “to conduct negotiations and recommend legislation to secure operation of the nitrate and power properties." The concurrent resolution now before the Senate Agriculture Committee be appointed to receive bids for a lease on Muscle Shoals. The Senate Committee expects to vote on it this week. Housewives who have desserts taken care of in this easy and satisfactory way, have much less difficulty in keeping a maid, for rare Indeed Is the queen of the kitchen who Is both willing and competent to satisfactorily evolve the “climax” of a meal. In these days of attention to food values, it is a highly important fact, too, that ice cream has excellent nutritive qualities. Even an invalid who often Is unable to eat solid food is quite able to consume ice cream and it is usually very palatable to' a delicate appetite. So, from the standpoint of health and of convenience ice cream—good Ice cream, unvaryingly delicious—such as Jessup & Antrim are/ known to manufacture, makes an ideal refreshment for all occasions. She referred to the considerate service of the "Walter Blazengym Funeral Home at 2226 Shelby St. For twenty years this funeral home, practically in the same location, has given the sympathetic, careful attention to every detail that brings solace to grief-stricken hearts. Nothing that can be done to add to the comfort of those who have services, either from the home, or from the funeral parlors, has been overlooked. There is even a room for out-of-town guests, who without extra charge may come here. i rain has improved from j-ear to year until it is today one of the sturdiest of the healing arts- Os all the new developments a system which is called the Spears painlees system of adjustings and which enables a patient to take adjustments without pain or discomfort of any kind, gets far better results than could be had through the old systems, “Elderly persons whose bones are frail and brittle now can take chiropractic# adjustments without the slightest uncomfortable after-effect. This is equally true of the little folks. Even babies, with their delicate bone structure can be treated by this method, with great benefit and no harm. The system is gentle and soothing and I am now actually adjusting the tiniest babies without causing them the least pain or soreness.” LIGHT METHODS STOP MISHAPS Merchants Company Shows Great Results. "The Illumination service department J)t the Merchants Heat and Light Company wishes to correct a general Impression that up-to-date lighting methods are only for the very latest buildings, in which the latest results of lighting research have been employed at the time of the building’s construction,” comments H. H. Thurber of- the company. “The need of illumination service is evidenced by the fact that almost daily calls are received for advice and suggestions on this subject. The value of proper Illumination is being more and more appreciated, not only by the owners of new buildings in the process of construction, but by operators of old buildings as well,” he added. It Is well known that adequate illumination reduces accident hazard. More people are seriously or fatally injured in Industrial operations in the United States annually than the casualties of the American soldiers In France during the World War amounted to. Insurance statistics, it Is said, proclaim that, over 15 per cent of industrial accidents are attrlbutable to poor lighting, and the insurance companies further state that in 1924 there were some 300,000 accidents attributable to faulty lighting, and 4,000 of these were fatal.
