CITY ELECTION INVESTIGATED Drand Jury Demands Ballots in Last Primary. United Press CONNERSVILLE, Ind., Jan. 26. Search was being made today for the supplies used in the primary election last May by order of the Fayette County grand jury. Investigation of alleged irregularities in the voting was indicated, Monday, when the grand jurors demanded the ballot boxes, keys and election supplies used. City officials reported these articles could not be found and search was ordered. Members of the present city administration, election officials in 1925, and former city officials have been summoned as witnesses before the grand jury it was learned. Rumors of alleged irregularities in the conduct of the last prin-ary have been current here for sometime. NEW CITIZENS TO BE GUESTS Junior C. of C. Will Give Reception Thursday Night. Members of the Junior Chamber of Commerce will give a public reception Thursday night for newly naturalized citizens of foreign birth and their families at the American Set i lenient House. 617 W. Pearl St. The program Is being arranged by William Henry Harrison, Americanization committee chairman. Judge James A. Collins of Criminal Court will speak. According to Miss Margaret Mahoney, county naturalization clerk, forty-three persons of foreign extraction will take examinations for their final papers in Superior Court One Thursday. They will be heard before Judge James M. Leathers and examined by Edward Kennedy of Cincinnati, Ohio. RETURNED TO FARM Convicted Bigamist Who Escaped Captured at Marion. Bit United Press _ . MARION, Ind., Jam 26.—Grant County officials today started to the Indiana State Farm with Ed Morrison of Van Buren, who was recaptured here after escaping from the State institution. Morrison was convicted on a charge of bigamy and had served only four days of his term when he escaped. HOOSIER CLUB PLANS Special Entertainment Will Be Given Next Sunday Evening. PASTOR ENTERTAINED Out-of-Town Delegations Attend Reception for Dr. F. E. Taylor. Dr. Frederick B. Taylor, First Baptist church pastor today held a warm spot In his heart for hundreds of friends who greeted him and Mrs. Taylor at a reception Monday night at the church. Dr. Taylor, pastor for more than twenty years, recently declined a call to a church in Philadelphia, Pa. It was estimated 1,000 persons including delegations from Franklin, Richmond, Terre Haute and Zionsville, attended. "I understand I am the new pastor here,” Dr. Taylor said. The reception line was composed of Dr. and Mrs. Taylor, the Rev. O. R. McKay, assistant pastor and wife, W. H. Roland and wife, and Mrs. Woods Caperton. * $2,000 FOR BANDITS Reward Posted for Capture of New Albany Killers. Bn United Press NEW ALBANY, Ind., Jan. 26. Rewards totaling more than $2,000 today hung over the heads of the bandits who shot and killed Deputy Sheriff Daniel Mayfield during a gun battle here. The rewards were posted by the county commissioners and members of the Floyd County Bankers' Association.

NEGRO AWAITS START OF TERM Sentenced for Life as Habitual Criminal. Walter Payne, 32, Negro, 761 Indiana Ave., was awaiting commitment in the county Jail today after being found guilty of being a habitual criminal, in Criminal Court, Monday, and sentenced to life imprisonment at the Indiana State Prison by Special Judge Henry N. Epaan. The jury, out twenty minutes, found Payne also guilty of first degree burglary. Prosecutor William H. Remy Insisted the defendant be sent to prison* for life for being a habitual criminal. Payne served parts of sentences in the Indiana and Ohio State Prisons but was paroled after serving his minimum terms. In passing sentence Judge Spaan said, "I now say that .for any person or persons in power to parole or pardon you from the sentence of this court would be an Inconceivable crime.” The evidence during the trial showed Payne had entered three homes, robbed the inhabitants and attacked women in the homes. He was also accused of attacking five other women.
