Half Century as Thrasher Profitable Finest Wife Worth a ' • / ' Million, Says Veteran.

"With the springy step of a youngster and. his cheeks glowing with health, James Creel, 75, of Flora, said to be the oldest thrasherman in the United States, from point of service, is looking forward to years of active work before he retires. Creel attended the sixteenth annual convention of the Indiana Brotherhood of Thrashermen here this week. "Fifty-six years of active service and I am still good for a whole lot more," the veteran said. “I got my first outfit when I was 19, away back in 1869. It was a horse operated thrasher, and I used it two years before getting one of the fancy new steam machines. My father backed me and he made me pay him every cent I owed him. "Have I made a success? Sure 1 have, the greatest success in the world. I was up on the machine- when the prettiest girl I ever saw came along. "I just hoped and prayed something would get wrong with the machinery, to give me a chance to get down and see her. But nothing happened until she started away, and then the pesky machine broke not a minute after she left. “But I did meet her later, and finally when sleighing time came along I got my nerve up and got her —and that’s why I say that old machine was worth more than a million dollars to me.’’ POOR HEALTH IS BLAMED Woman's Fifth Attempt at Suicide Successful.
