CITY MARKET PRICES LOWER Fresh Country Eggs 42 Cents a Dozen. City market prices were uniformly lower today. Fresh country eggs sold for 42 cents a dozen and milk-fed chickens at 45 cents :4 pound. Country butter ranged from 55 to 60 cents a pound. Honey in combs was 30 cents a pound. Tomatoes dropped to 35 cents a pound. , Choice baking potatoes brought 25 cents for three pounds, but good potatoes could be purchased at four pounds for 25 cents. Jersey sweet potatoes 3vere 25 cents for two pounds. Fresh pineapples fell as low as 35 cents apiece. Choice grapes wore 30 cents a pound. Black walnuts appeared at 10 cents a pound. commlsslon” is loser Judge Says City Ordinances Are Above Edicts. Bu United Press HAMMOND, Ind., Jan. 19.—The public service commission today found itself without authority to enforce its edicts if these edicts are contrary to city ordinances, following a decision of Judge Reiter in the Lake County Superior Court here. Reiter held, in ruling on a ruling on a petition of the Gary Railway Company to prevent the city from enforcing an ordinance against it, that a city has an inherent right to regulate its own transportation systems.

Thorp of the Thorp Awning Shoppe, 2407 College Ave. “Awnings for the homes are more in demand each year.” The display of awnings of the Thorp Shoppe won first place at the National Tent and Awning Manufacturers * Association at Cleveland, Ohio, in October against a large field of cotton goods men. The exhibit was made and placed by ine Thorp Shoppe for the Brill-Rodgers Cotton Goods Company of New York and St. Loulu. Thorp says that the display is a striking example of what the new stripes will look like this year'in the way of patterns. The colorings are more gorgeous than ever before. MINERS’ STRIKE NOT FELT HERE, COAL MAN SAYS “The anthracite coal miners’ ■strike, severely as It has been felt in some cities, has not yet seriously affected Indianapolis.” Henry IMthmer, president of the Polar Ice and Coal Comany said today. “This is partly due to the fact that consumers in Indianapolis do not use anthracite as they once did. Pocahontas coal largely has taken its place. “But there are many kinds of Pocahontas, eight different veins, and consumers should be careful that inferior grades of Pocahontas are not put in their coal bins. Prices on these poor grades may sound attractive; what is called Pocahontas may cost a buyer $2 less on a ton, but to buy such coal Is pool economy. “The Polar Ice and Fuel Copipany, deals tn Pocahontas which has come from picked mines, known as third vein coal. This is the only coal 3ve buy or sell and our customers, who order again and again from us, know the heating qualities of this excellent grade. We never buy from brokers, and our qualities are therefore unvarying. "Occasionally someone talks of ‘red ash’ coal, or refers in some way to the ash of coal as if It had superior significance.
