JUDGE FAVORS OLD TEACHINGS Lauds Little Red School During Bad Check Trial. Strict adherence to old-fashioned teachings of the “little red schoolhouse" was advocated by Judge James A. Collins in Criminal Court Monday afternoon during the trial of Wayne E. Browning, 24, of Huntington, W. Va„ charged with issuing fraudulent checks. Browning, the son of an aristocratic Virginia family; is alleged to have passed five worthless checks in Indianapolis and numerous others in other cities. “I’m for the little red schoolhouse and the spelling bee—it’s got all the fraternities and sororities backed clean off the map,” said Judge Collins. The court ordered that Browning he held until Saturday morning, when his father, L. D, Browning, Is due to arrive from West Virginia. According to Browning, his father promised to place SI,OOO in any bank to his credit. He said he made out ids checks thinking the money had been placed in a local bank.

LAD, 9, LOSES LIFE Fatally Injured Gathering Coal for Destitute Family. CHICAGO, Jan. 19—Robert Trapp, 9, managed to smile, “good-by mamma” as he slipped off Monday into that mysterious realm where there is no need for little boys to pick coal along the railroad tracks. Robert seemed to realize, as he lay there on the hospital cot with one leg gone and his skull broken, that he had done his best to help "mamma" and his eleven destitute brothers and sisters. The father, John Trapp, died two months ago. The widow and her orphans were suffering from the cold, so Robert went out along the railway tracks to pick up some coal. His basket was nearly full when a switch engine struck him down.

The 3 Things That Saving Means First, there is the money itself. Then there is the interest we pay you. But of equal importance is the fact that saving money builds character and prestige. There is no finer recommendation for the young man or woman who hopes to “get on," than the fact that they have the saving habit. The world will not be so much interested in the mere size of your savings as it will be in the knowledge that you are headed in the right direction—that is what counts. Get started toward success.
