Puzzle a Day
A real estate dealer purchased a square plot of land on Long Island a year before the section was allotted. He had a tip that In the near future this plot would face four streets. But when the streets were laid he discovered that his neighbor owned the entire frontage on two adjoining sides of his property. This stretch was a strip one yard wide containing 201 square yards. If the real estate broker buys the strip, it will make a regularly shaped plot. How large is his present plot of land? Last puzzle answer;

INDIANA DELL RATES NOW UP TO COMMISSION Artman Rests After Hearing Ends —Gilliom Denounces Interference. After fifteen months’ intensive study cf the Indtana Bell Telepnone Company’s rates and services, the public service commission today took the case under advisement, preparatory to establishment of anew valuation and rate schedule. Following tne of oral arguments Wednesday, Presiding Commissioner Samuel R. Artman retired to his home for a long rest, in compliance With hts physician’s orders. “It may be a long time before the order is written,” Artman said. , Belief that the company should be held to a fair valuation of $35,607,760.86, a 6 per cent return .on investment and a 4% per cent depreciation allowance, was expressed by Attorney General Arthur L. Gilliom and Taylor E. Grainger, special coun-’ sel. Gilliom denounced outside forces which "undertake to prevent the commission from having a free mind and a free conscience in a matter of this kind” and declared he would not stultifv himself and his conscience to uphold an order wTltlen by this or any other commission when his conscience told him it was wrong. Gilliom sharply opposed the $46,000.000 valuation sought by the Bell. Will' H. Thompson and Perry O’Neal, attorneys for the company, wound up arguments with the declaration that last year’s rates allowed the company an income of less than one-half of one per cent.
