LOCAL COUNCIL BACKS OUT OF CITY BOARD ROW
Committee Reports Findings on Laws Justify Duvall's Stand. Tha Indianapolis Kocal Council of ■Women decided to keep out of the park board row, at its regular meeting Tuesday afternoon at the Lincoln. A committee appointed to look into the law reported that the organization had erred in, a resolution asking Maydr John la Duvall to retain the old members of the park board and not to appoint an entirely new board. The findings of the committee proved that the mayor has the right to remove members of the ,park board for inefficiency at any time, and that each succeeding mayor has used this law, arguing that greater efficiency was possible if closer harmony prevailed between the mayor and the board members. The committee declared that it feels it would be unreasonable and unjust to ask Mayor Duvall to regain park board members appointed recently by Mayor Shank. The whole matter was decided to be dropped, with the exception of asking the mayor to appoint a Democratic woman to serve with Mrs. Joseph B. Kealing, a Republican, whom he intends to appoint to the park board. Dr, ,T. Ambrose Dunkel of the Tabernacle Presbyterian Church addresses the members on “The Need of the Church in Modern Society.” Miss Florence Wilson of Los Angeles, Cal., critic and reviewer of Universal studio, talked on betterment of the films.
