Indeed, he made him go back to bed." “Oh, I hope it’s nothing serious," I Bald to our old chauffeur In alarm. "Oh, no, Mrs. Prescott. It Is not at all serious, but the doctor wants the new skin to be thoroughly healed before he uses his leg in any way, and as Mr. Prescott is so determined to go to the plant when they take that moving picture, 1 think his physician was glad of an excuse to keep him In the house today.” "And how are the children, Thomas?” I asked, as we made our way through the station, where my eyes were surprised by a gorgeous new roadster —something I had intended to buy for myself for a long while. "Oh, how wonderful!" I exclaimed. “Yes,” said Thomas. “Mr. Prescott said I was to present it to you with his love, and talking about the children, Master John said to me yesterday that probably after you came home you would want him to learn chauffeuring, for, with this new car, he knew you would ride with greater safety If he was at the wheel.” I looked up In surprise. Thomas was not wont to joke, but It did not seem possible that little Jack could have said just what he was telling me. "I’m sure you’re trying to make a joke! That sounds awfully grown up. Thomas." "No, Mrs. Prescott, Master John
really said all of It/ Your oldest son. Mum, surely thinks you could not get along without him. Sometimes I think he is almost grown up already." "What did you say to him, Thomas?” "I asked him if he thought It would be fair to take my Job away from me. Mother Forbids Dear Mia Lee: I am a flri of 14 and am in ttm 6rat year of hqrn achool. My mother thinks it Is a diarraoe tor flrls of m.v axe to run around with the boys Don’t you think sties old-faehtoned Mies Leo? Since 1 am not allowed to do that what am T to do? I don't enjoy (Oinjr around with rirls very much rounrsr than TANARUS, but the srirls of my age and older spend their time with the boys, so what will I do? Mlhs I>er, mother treat* me like an Infant. She will very seldom let dm ro out at ntrht unless them tea grown per son lagging along. Do Yes, Frances, I think mother 1* very wise. You must b* a girl of little Imagination and Initiative If the only things you can think of are boys. Ido not bolleve that your mother would forbid your having boy and girl friends at your house to make candy or play guinea occasionally. What she no doubt and rightly objects to Is her little daughter going out with a cub of a boy alone, both trying to be grown up and sophisticated enough to pet and do the rough things they’ve heard older boys and girls were doing. Better be a little girl while you can, Frances. You’ll be a grown woman a long, long time. I think that friendship with boys should come gradually and naturally into the lives of girls, not be sprung upon them all at once Just because they are 17 or 18 or 19, and of age. But 1 do think mother Is wise to send a grown-up "tagging*’ along for a while.
