The Tangle MOTION PICTURE ACTRESS BUYS HALF A MILLION DOLLARS WORTH OF PEARLS It seems that Mrs. Prescott will also sell her entire collection of pearls, half of which were purchased by her brother-in-law, Mr. Whitney, and presented to the Orthopedic Hospital to be sold for charity. The news of this was told in this paper yesterday. It is now whispered that the other half of Mrs. Prescott’s collection, which is finer, if possible, has been sold to the motion picture actress who has recently been in this city. The deal Is said to have been consummated last evening by representatives of Miss Perier and Mr. Karl Whitney who had been given a power of attorney by Mrs. Prescott, Mr. Prescott, who, being confined tp his house and knowing that Mr. Whitney was a better judge of pearls than he, insisted that he should transact the business. While Miss Perier’s ostensible reason for her recent stay in Pittsburgh was to make some sequences at the Hamilton Steel Mills for her new picture, “Hot Steel,” it really looks as though she carae - purposely to buy the jewels. Finding Mrs. Prescott out of town and Mr. Prescott confined to his bed with a slight illness, the actress departed for New York, and will remain there until Mr. Prescott is able to return to the plant, where the pictures will be taken and sent hey representatives here to buy the pearls. Miss Perier will be in the city during the time that the bazaar is open and it is hoped by those in charge that she will make a personal appearance there at least for one afternoon and evening. Letter from Mrs. Mary Alden Prescott to John Alden Prescott My dear son, You will probably be surprised to kiow that, after much thought and deliberation, I have decided to marry Mr. Orson Gibson who, for a long time, has been pleading with me to be his wife. I want you, dear John, to understand that I would not under any circumstances leave you and Leslie if you both had not made me realize that I can be of no particular use to 'you. You will remember that I met Mr. Gibpon at Atlantic City. We were mutually attracted to each other and even before I had left, he proposed marriage to me, but it seemed to me that we had not known each other long enough to take such an import tant step. See? I don't look much like a Cupltl, but I think I might enjoy creating romances If I could keep my motherly eyes on everybody. But that Isn’t possible, you know, me having only two motherly eyes.
