HUGE PARTY IS ARRANGED FOR RAILROAD MEN Local Singer to Be Heard * Over Pennsylvania Radio Program Tuesday. Pennsylvania Railroad employes here next Tuesday will tune in on a huge radio Christmas program broadcast from radio stations ay over the country. Raymond Ball of the trainmaster’s office, a tenor solosits at Roberts Par?* M. 12. church will go to Chicago where he will sing over station WEBIJ. He will be accompanied by Miss June McKee of the division engineer’s office. Approximately seventy-five little parties will be held at the homes of employes who have radios. The program will be broadcast during the afternoon and evening. Thousands to Hear The number of persons employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad is approximately 200,000. Many thousands more will take part In the celebration, since members of employes’ families have been invited to attend. Arrangements for the Christmas party were carried out all. over the system at the suggestion of W. W. LVtterbury, president, who will speak lit the meeting in the Metropolitan L>pera House, Philadelphia, for the I'mployes of the eastern region and "the general offices. Vice Presidents "Elisha Lee and A. J. County will also speak, w’hile musical numbers will be provided by the accounting department club, freight claim department chorus, car service de-i partment glee club and the women’s chorus from the general offices. This meeting will be held from 8 to 10 p. m., eastern standard time, and Atterbury’s address, as well as other parts of the program, will be broadcast by station WIP. Large meetings also will be held at Pittsburgh sor s the central region and at Chicago for the western region. At the Pittsburgh meeting, which will be held at the Syrian Mosque from 2 to 4 p. m., a large musical program, which will include railroad talent from all parts of the central region, will bo rendered. Three hundred school children from Pitcairn, home of the largest shops in the central region, will sing, accompanied by the Pitcairn Shop Band. E. T. Whiter, vice president in charge of the central region, will iniake a brief address. All the program will be broadcast front station KDKA. At Chicago The Chicago party will be held at the Edgewater Beach Hotel from 7 to 8 p. m. Central Time, and this program will be broadcast by Station WEBH. The Columbus Glee Club, the Ft. Wayne Band and the Case Boys’ Choir of Logansport, will be the chief organizations taking part. In addition to these prinFcipal nfeetings. programs will he held at Trenton, Wilmington, Baltimore, Cape Charles, Harrisburg, Tyronne. Elmira, Reading, Altoona, Buffalo, Cleveland, Canton, Dennison Cincinnati, Terre Haute, Ft. Wayne and St. Louis. At the Altoona party, employes of the Altoona works will join with their fellow-workmen pn the Middle and Cresson divisions to give an evening entertainment In the high school auditorium. F. G. Will Fight Snow Menace on Roads Bu NEA Service
AVASHINOTON, Dec. 25. Efforts are being made by automobile clubs of the country to keep all of the main highways free from snow this winter. It has been estimated that 60,000 miles of improved roads In every section of the Union will be kept from snow. This is, however, a little more than 60 per cent of the main highways in the states seriously affected by snowfall.
