SNOW BLOCKS RAILWAY World’s Wonder Line Has Spiral Tunnel. Bit NEA Service BUENOS AYRES, Dec. 17.—One of the world’s most wonderful railways runs between here and Valparaiso. The line, owning to the immenso elevation it attains in crossing the .andes, runs for hundreds of miles through a region of eternal snow and is frequently blocked by avalanches. Among Its wonders is a spiral tunnel, a natural bridge of rock, and a string of 118 steel bridges linked together by short stretches of solid permanent way.
RADIO BLAZE PROVES FATAL Woman Perishes as Receiver Burns. Bv NEA Service MERSHAM, England, Dec. 18.— Radio enthusiasts whose sets carry celluloid-cased accumulators should take care to avoid a short circuit which might set the receiver afire. At a recent inquest on a woman radio fan, who was burned to death, the theory was brought forward that the fire was caused by the accumulator was short circuited receiving set catching fire. It was believed that the accumulator was short circuited by the ends of the wires attached to the terminals coming into contact, and that the wires, becoming red hot, set fire to the celluloid container.
