NIGHT LETTER FROM LESLIE PRESCOTT TO JOHN PRESCOTT Told mother over telephone yesterday that 1 would be home tomorrow. Last night Ruth fell down stairs and for twelve hours her life was despaired of. Doctors have succeeded In saving her, however, by a caesarian operation and they have great hopes of saving the baby also. If you are not In great need of me, will stay here a few days longer. I think it would kill Ruth if her baby does not live and I fully sympathize with her, as you know what it meant to me when I found that because of that automobile accident, I had lost my great hope of a child at that time. Everything is being donje that Is possible for Ruth and her baby. Walter, however, is like a madman. We have had to keep him absolutely away from his wife. This I seem to be better able to do than anyone else. That is why lam staying. Ask Karl te write me his plans about the pearls. Kiss the babies for me, I love you. LESLIE. Night Letter From John Prescott to leslie Prescott . Words cannot express my great sympathy for Ruth and AA’alter. Stay with ,them as long as they need you. I remember very well that Ruth came to you at that terrible time when our first baby was born dead and it was through her wise counsel that little Jack was placed in your arms that brought you back from the very gates of the Great Beyond. Am getting along fine. Leg does not hurt me at all., Mother is out of town. Consequently Hannah is happy In her care of the children. Tell AValter to keep a stiff upper lip. Everything will be all right In the end. Am selfish enough, however, to hope Ruth will be well

Next—Letter from Karl Whitney to Leslie Prescott. jWTartha Lee’s Column Catspawing Dear Miss Lee : I am 18 years old and am engaged to a young man. X have known him only a year and he is the first one leared for and have gone with steady, but I am realizing now now many rood times I have missed. I am just begimituz to meet other fellows and 1 hate to tell him that I do not want to be marreid right away. He has told everybody about out engagement and 1 wish you would help me by telling me the best thing to do. What would vou do if you were me? , % B. I would value the fine love of a man too much to cheat him. So, feeling as you do, I would tell him just as simply and considerately as possible that you do not know your own heart yet, and you feel that you are cheating to be holding him to the contract when you are not sure. Don’t give him the impression that you are jilting him or you will make him bitter and create a bad impression. Tell him that you think too much of him, as Indeed you should, to pUty a make-believe game. That you want to give all your love when you give It, and that until you

MANY OLD BOTTLES IN LIBRARY EXHIBIT Products of Old Workmen Part of Local Artist’s Collec- \ tion —Blown With or Without Moulds.
Bottles old and new, of varying shape, sizes and colors, are on display In the art room of Central Library. They are a part of the collection of Paul Hadley, local artist and instructor in the John Herron Art Institute. The antique bottles are of two varieties: Those which were blown and fashioned by hand without a are ready to do that, you want to be released from your engagement. Be fair. Be honest. Honesty commands respect, always. He will think more of you for it and so will everyone else than If you cheated. The Boy Friend Dear Martha Lee: X have a boy friend who lives in a town about sixty mile, from here. I met him while on a visit there. Went with him the entire summer. Since I came home we have corresponded regularly. He ha# also been up to see me several times. He is coming this Sunday. Would It be all right or proper to invite him for Christmas and should my mother do the inviting? BEE. Mother should give the official Invitation. Not that she should say it formally, Jjut it is better coming from her and seconded by you. It is all right to ask him, but he may have to spend Christmas at home. AVhy not ask him to come up for a cozy, early supper Christmas night? Such an occasion Is informal and could be made very charming. In either case th<d older bottles may lie known by tb>” “pontH" mark on the base of tho bottle, a rough circular scar, formed b ybreaking the battle from tho pontll or punty rod which held it while the workman finished tho neck. Os the mould-blown piece In Hadlay’s collection, perhaps the most unique are two large glass pickle bottles of Gothic design. A bluish green camphor bottle with a twisted neck blown without a mould is another Interesting example. An old wlnb bottle of brown glass bears around the circumference a number of arched panels enclosing relief figures of Benedictine monks. A number of modern examples of bottle making are included In the collection, because of their beauty of color and shape.
