WATCH DRIVING IN WINTER TIME, SAYS OFFICIAL ■ Motor Club Secretary Warns That Allowance Must Be Made. 'The many automobile accidents Jjroduced every year by the winter jnonths and the disportion between number of accidents and the ntlfhber of vehicles on the streets, was the subject of a warning issued to local motorists today by Todd gtoops, secretary of the IHoosier JlOtor Club. Stoops called attention to the re*ult ot an investigation by the accident prevention departments of several large A. A. A. clubs. This lfiy.estiga.tion, he declared, proves that motorists do not make allowances for winter conditions on the I highways. I /‘The fact that in many cases the ■MHf’ve of accidents sharply rises in mo winter months when there are Tewer vehicles on the streets,” he g£ld, ‘‘shows conclusively that congestion alone is not the cause of accidents. The findings of the ac?ident prevention departments of pores of A. A. A. clubs are Unanimous on the point that motorists fail to make the right adjustment in their driving habits when wmry weather arrives. “ft has been proven, for instance, that in some cities the accidents on *i wet day increase by about 100 per cent. The traffic officers making the counts noted that on the whole the p)OtOrists involvel in these accidents Were going at the speed which they scad come to regard as safe in dry #reather, and had they made the necessary Adjustment and reduced *ptoed 25 per cent it is safe to assume that there would be on increase in accidents. '.“Another thing that causes many motorists to come to grief is the degree of confidence that they place ini dhains. Chains, it has been shown, may be a good aid in keeping the safety margin, but are by no means a preventive against accidents.” PLAN SALESMAN’S DINNER Plans for a'salesman’s dinner in January will be made by a committee of the Chamber of Commerce Wholesale trade division Dec. 11.
