EGGS TAKE A 5-CENT DROP Sell for 65 and 70 Cents at City Market. Eggs dropped 5 cents a dozen to price of 65 and 70 cents today at \the city market. Most fruit and •vegetable prices remained unchanged. Hothouse cucumbers prac'tically were off the stands and the price was boosted to 50 cents each. Tangerines, at 50 cents a dozen, were seen on more stands. Other prices included: Chickens, 40 to 45 cents a pound; turkeys, 60 and 65 cents a pound; ducks, 45 cents a pound; rabbits, 50 cents each; California celery, 10 cents a bunch; green beans, 15 cents a pound, and pineapples, 45 cents each. Lemon prices were low and many curb stands sold them for 15 cents a dozen. Other quotations were as high as 35 cents a dozen. Peas sold at 25 cents a pound: potatoes, four and five pounds for 25 cents, and cabbage, 5 cents a pound.

ELECT INDIANAPOLIS MAN Ainos Butler Heads Indiana Society for Mental Hygiene, Amos W. Butler, Indianapolis, was elected president of the Indiana Society for Mental Hygiene at the tenth annual meeting at the Lincoln Monday. Other officers elected were: Mrs. Nora D. Short, Salem, vice president; Evans Woollen, Indianapolis, treasurer, and Paul Kirby, Indiana, secretary. Dr. S. E. Smith, Indiana University provost, was named chairman of the executive committee. Other committee members are: William J. Sayres, Muncie; W. C. VanNuys, Newcastle; Dr. L. P. Ross, Richmond; Donal Dushane, Columbus; Mrs. R. A. Archer, Terre Haute, and State Senator C. O. Holmes, Gary. PURCHASE PETITIONED i Hoosier Utilities Asks to Buy Greensburg Gas, Electric Concern. Hoosier Public Utilities Company, said to be backed by Chicago capital, today petitioned the public service commission for authority to purchase the Greensburg Gas and Electric Company, appraised at $492,496. The petitioner asked to Issue and sell $250,000 of its first mortgage twenty-year, 6 per cent bonds and 5,000 shares of common stock at not less than 90 per cent. The petition wa filed by J. W. Fesler, Indianapolis attorney, and gives Albert E. Pierce, Chicago, president, and M. F. Finley, secretary.
TAX FIGURES GIVEN 1,554 Hoosiers Pay On Incomes of More Than $25,000. Indiana citizens paid the Federal Government $38,230,796.62 in Income taxes during the last fiscal year, it was announced Monday by George Foote, chief deputy collector of the internal revenue department. Foote said 1,554 Hoosiers paid taxes on individual incomes of more than $25,000. There were 114,761 Individual incomes of less than $25,000. The total shows a 60 per cent decrease as compared to June, 30, 1921. Foote said this was due chiefly to the repeal of the excess profits tax and increased classes of exemptions.
FRENCH SINKING FUND APPROVED New Taxes Planned to Revive Treasury. Bv United Press PARIS. Dec. B.—New direct and Indirect taxes capable of raising eight billion francs for France’s rehabilitation were approved today by a ministerial council, which prepared to send the proposal to the chamber. Along with this approval, the cabinet members also approved the project of Finance Minister Locheur for a sinking fund similar to the recent Painleve project and designed to aid in retiring some of Franco’s mounting debt. These two sections of the Locheur plan constitute the main schemes for meeting the pressing financial problem of France. Other measures for consolidation of certain bonds, modification of the income 'tax system, increased railroad fares and lesser steps. SANITY TEST ASKED Accused Sunday School Worker Fortner Indianapolis Man. Bn United Frees HAMMOND, Ind., Dec. B.—A sanity commission today will Investigate the mental condition of Ora Cadwallader, Christian church worker, charged with contributing to the delinquency of girls who were members of his Sunday school class. Cadwallader entered a plea of guilty to delinquency charges at a hearing In Crown Point Monday. At the hearing It developed that Cadwallader, three years ago, while a resident es Indianapolis, was sentenced to a term at the Indiana State reformatory on a similar charge. HIGHER PAY FAVORED Members of the State legislative finance committee today received a resolution passed by the Marlon County Fish and Game Association asking that the salary of George Mannfeld, State fish and game superintendent, be restored to $4,000 a year. The committee recently cut Mannfeld’s salary to $3,000.

B. —Henry Berenger, noted financial expert, was today named by Premier Briand as ambassador to Washington to succeed Ambassador Daeschner who is to return here. President Domergue approved the appointment which it is understood is only temporary permitting Berenger to negotiate a debt settlement with the United States and then return to his parliamentary duties here.
