BANDIT FENCE IS GIVEN TERM Sovetsky Engineered Huge Terre Haute Robbery. Bu United Press CHICAGO, Dec. 2.—John Sovetsky, the alleged "mllllon-dollar fence,” whose slickness In wriggling out of trouble Infuriated' the authorities of two States, today was under a sentence of one tq ten years In the penitentiary for receiving stolen goods. Sovetsky was found guilty last night of possessing property stolen from Green Bay, Wis., and Terre Haute, Ind. Police last May found SIOO,OOO worth of stolen property In his garage and home. Part of it was from Rupture Kills 17,000 Annually Seventeen thousand pereone ovei forty years of age each year are laid away—not to apeak of countless others below that age the burial certificate being marked "Rupture.” Why? Because the unfortunate ones had neglected themselves or had been merely taking care of the sign (swelling) of the affliction and paying no attention to the cause. What are you doing? Are you neglecting yourself by wearing a truss, appliance or whatever name you choose to call It? At best, the truss Is only a makeshift—a false prop against a collapsing wall — and cannot be expected to act a* more than a mere mechanical support. The binding pressure retards blood circulation, thus robbing the Weakened muscles of that which they need most—nourishment. But science has found a way, and all truss sufferers in the land are Invited to make a FREE) test right In the privacy of their own homes. The PLAPAO method Is unquestionably the most scientific logical and successful self-treat-ment for rupture the world has ever known. The PLAPAO PAD when adhering closely to the body cannot possibly slip or shift out of place, therefore cannot chafe or pinch. Soft as velvet—easy to apply comparatively Inexpensive. To be used whilst you work and whilst you sleep. No straps, buckles or springs attached. Learn how to lose the hernial opening as nature Intended so the rupture CAN'T come down. Send your name today to PLAPAO CO., 24 Stuart Bldg., St. Louis. Mo., for FREE trial Plapae and instructive information.—(c)P.L. —Advertisement.

THE Standard Oil Company (Indiana) believes that much of the misunderstanding of the petroleum industry, on the part of the public, may be charged to lack of information respecting this very point. Nature does not give us crude oil, much less does she give us gasoline. She makes us pay for every barrel of crude we get in money, in time and laborious effort. “Os the 18,500 wells drilled in the United States between January 1 and September 30 this year, more than 6,500 failed to find oil. The drilling of these wells called for heavy investments of capital. The producers of crude oil pay enormous sums of money annually for machines, equipment, engines, boilers, motors, pumps, pipes, tools, cement, tile, brick and scores of other materials. The cost of producing crude is great, and growing. It has been calculated “that in the producing branch alone over a half a billion dollars a year are spent in the effort to maintain the country’s oil supply.’’ More than one-third of this tremendous investment is lost by reason of the wells failing to reach an oil strata. The other twothirds represent producing wells. When the oil is above ground, it must be handled and rehandled before it can reach your tank as gasoline. First, it must be transported long distances through pipe lines. Second, it must be stored in quantities sufficient to insure a steady supply for the refiners. Third, it must be refined in plants that represent a total investment of hundreds of millions of dollars. Fourth, it must be transported in special tank cars to point of distribution. Fifth, it must be stored in bulk stations until called for by the consuming public, and, Sixth, it must be hauled in tank wagons to service stations, garages, or to the tank of the ultimate consumer. Each of these steps calls for large investments of money and heavy operating charges all of which the Standard Oil Company (Indiana) furnishes that you may have your gasoline when and where you want it at a reasonable price. No, nature does not give us gasoline! Standard Oil Company ( Indiana) General Office: Standard Oil Building 910 So. Michigan Avenue, Chicago

INDIANA COAL IS HANDLED BY PEOPLES FIRM Company President Advises Buying at Present Time. Wintry breezes outside, but toasty warmth Inside the home. That's what Indianapolis folk can have, if they call up the Peoples Coal and Cement Company, 1109 E. Fifteenth St., and order either of the two excellent grades of Indiana coal — Everglo or Winterglo. “There's real necessity for buying coal now,” asserts Ray Macy, president of the company. “The anthracite strike, in effect since September first, has reduced stock everywhere. It has now become necessary for consumers to use other grades especially Eastern grades, Kentucky, Pocohontas and West Virginia now are going Into the anthracite market.” “Lewis' letter to President Coolidge,”, Macy continued, “was to the effect that In the absence of intervention of the President, mine organization will settle, which simply means a general strike. If >• that occurs, coal supplies all over the country will be affected. It Is wrlse then for people to lay In their fuel supply as soon as possible.” “This company is one of the largest dealers,” Macy said. “Wo operate three yards, and at present have a good supply on hand. But heavy demands is of course daily reducing stocks. I would advise Indianapolis persons to get their coal bins filled up without delay.”

New Home at 41
A house completely designed by its owner! That perhaps accounts for the charming individuality which marks the new home of Tom Barnett, 41 E. Forty-ninth St., typical English architecture. The house, situated on a rising knoll of land, Is of buff, sponge-finish stucco, with window trim of white, and sloping roof of rough, variegated slate. A chimney, unique and striking is of brick, in which are imbedded bright-colored boulders. A full terrace, with two levels Is of Vermont slate,' flag-stone effect, and brick bordered. At one end of the terrace, white columns form one entrance, through French doors, Into the living room. The other entrance of mitered brick has a handsome and unusual antique-effect lead door with a knocker, and an English shield In the art leaded glass. This door leads Into the hall, from which broad winding stairs, with hammered wrought iron railings, catch the eye to the left. At the right, through a Gothic arch, Is the charmingly bright living room, with its double French doors looking out to the front and the side of the house, and a deep, satisfying brick fireplace, with Imbedded boulders. The woodwork here, as In all the downstairs. Is walnut, rubbed finish. Iron Gates # Through handsome, wrought Iron gates, one enters the dining room which is designed and furnished In Italian style. Leaded glass windows, In bay effect, give a flood of pleasing light here and the lighting fixtures of wrought Iron are especially striking. Here, as in the living room, the walls are of soft, deep cream, contrasting pleasingly with the . brown of the woodwork. Through doors to the south, one can step onto a rear terrace, where an Intriguing tile fountain. Is built Into the outside wall of the house. Returning to the dining room, one passes through another arched door, into a cunning little breakfast room to the left. Here also, Is a serving entry and from here, comes Into view, a "perfect dream” of a kitchen in green and white glazed tile. Every convenience has been installed here, with anew arrangement of a built-in ice box to the right of the sink, which of course, is filled from the outside. There are broad, low windows over the sink and one notices from here, the handsome double garage. In convenient proximity to the house. Upstairs, the three bedrooms vie with each other for dainty beauty. [ln the master's bedroom, soft shades of mulberry and gray predominate, in the wall paper, the Tiffany woodwork and the cunning built-in vanity. A recess with windows, a mirrored closet door, dainty light fixtures, all distinguish this room. Springtime Room The children’s bedroom breathes springtime and beauty, for the walls are papered in apple blossoms and the furniture is all done In colors of tender green. The guestroom to the right Is bright and cheerful and has. in common with the other upstairs rooms, two clothes closets. The bathroQm Is unusual, all In sparkling, white glazed tile, with a tiled archway over the built-in tub and a shower. In the basement Is every mod ern convenience, from a thermostat to a water softener. There is a complete laundry, a fruit and storeroom,
