COOLIDGE GETS NERVE TEST ON MITCHELL CASE \ *■ Action on Verdict Will Show President’s Political Craftsmanship. i ' - Bv Unit'd Preaa \ WASHINGTON, Nov. 27^-Presi-de nt Coolidge may soon have an opportunity to demonstrate whether he is, as Republican leaders say, the best politician who has occupied the White House in many years. The court-martial of CoL William Mitchell will furnish the chance. Congressmen returning to Washington for the coming session report their districts keenly interested in the outcome of the Mitchell hearing. The opinion is general, they say, that the Army and Navy are determined to punish him for “telling the truth.” Whether Mitchell is right or wrong, they report, he has the popular side of the controversy at the present moment. The court’s findings, if against him, will arouse a good deal of resentment. There is where President Coolidge will come in. If the verdict is “guilty” it will be laid before the President for his approval, as com-mander-in-chief of the Army. If the course of the Army and Navy has succeeded in making Mitchell a
