AIX PILOTS ON JHIAND FOR SPEED WIND-UP Dave Evans, ‘Maiden’ Driver, Last to Reach Culver Cty for 250-Mile Race' Sunday.
Bu Timet Special CITY, Cal., Nov. 27. 'WR-e Evans, “‘maiden knight of the speedway,’’ was the last driver to arrive for the 250-mlle auto classic that will be staged on the Culver City bowl next Sunday. Evans is the owner of his own car. For many months he has been following the racing sport and covering the speedway circuit. He had Phil Shafer drive his car and appeared in the role of a mechanic until the Charlotte race,' when he decided he was qualified to drive his Own car. Consistent Driver In his first rftce Evans drove very consistently, although he did not go crazy and try to rub hubs with Milton, Hartz, Cooper, Hill Duray, Wonderlich and the rest of the wild boys of the racing game. While the 1925 Speedway championship of the world already has been settled and no driver can dislodge Peter De Paolo, no matter what happens to the Flying Italian in the final speed event of the year, the speed classic Nov. 29 will be a bitter battle -for second place in the drivers’ standing. There are three drivers who have a chance to finish the year as the runner-up. Tommy now holds

second place to De Paolo and Bob McDonogh and Harry Hartz are third and fourth. respectively. Either Hartz or McDonogh can jhmp to second place by winning the coming 250-mile battle. De Paolo Safe in Lead Milton has 1,710 points to his credit., while De Paolo has the title cinched With a total of 3,260 championship marks. The winner of the Culver City meet will capture 500 points, and this would still leave Milton more than 1,000 points below the speedy Italian; but Milton is going to drive to win in order to hold his place next to the top. Both Hartz and McDonogh have outpointed a great collection of stars and they are both keen on finishing the year in second place. Earl Cooper, runner-up last year, is now in fifth place. By winning the Nov. 29 race at Culver City he can boost himself up one place; but the'best he can hope for is fourth. Dave Lewis is now running sixth, and he can move up one place if he defeats the entire field. Otherwise, Cooper will retain fifth place for the year, even if he falls to score in the coming race.
