Election Costs $83,000, City Estimate Primary and Mayoralty Vote Average $1 a Ballot.

mNDI ANAPOLIS taxpayers must produce $83,000 to pay expenses of primary and mayoralty elections, or approximately $1 a vote, according to John E. Ambihl, deputy city clerk. Four years ago the total was $78,112.82 Put there were only 166 precincts as compared to 225 this year. In reality there Is a reduction of $95 a precinct, Ambuhl said. City council appropriated only SBO,OOO to defray election expenses, but little difficulty in authorizing the additional $3,000 is expected. Payment! to 3,200 persons constituted the main item in the election bill. Every precinct required as a minimum staff one inspector, sl2 a day; two judges, $9 apjece; two clerks, $9 each; two sheriffs at $6 a head; while in a number of large precincts two additional clerks had jobs. Meals for officials averaged s2l a precinct while the owner of the

GIVES TANLAC FULL CREDIT Mrs. Minnie Somers Says Tanlac Brought Relief After Years of Suffering. Mrs. Minnie O. Somers “Since taking Tanlac, my friends fairly deluge' me with congratulations on my healthy, happy appearance, and no wonder, for my weight has gone up from 108 to 150 pounds, and I hardly look like the same person,” is the remarkable statement of Mrs: Minnie O. Somers, 300 West Gilbert St., Muncie. “Ten years ago, my health began to decline and I never felt right during all those years. ‘Sleepy Time Gal’ Seems to Be the Big Noise in the Land of Popular Music

By Walter D. HickmanmHE public has spoken and has given a definite order. The order is—Get issued at once as many different ways of putting “Sleepy Time Gal” on phonograph records. Just how and why this song number jumped into such importance, is beyond my way of thinking. Ana yet the demand has been made on this desk to- discover “Sleepy Time Gal” on the records. Nick Lucas tells me that he leaves next week for the East to record “Sleepy Time Gal” for Brunswick.

property used for the election booths received $lO. * Printing cost about $9,000, while the overhead on repair and transportations of the 250 voting machines was not small. The bill includes payment of election commissioners, absent voters’ paraphernalia and other smaller items.

Concerning the Little Theatre

The little Theatre Society, last night at the Masonic Temple - , presented “The Whole Town’s Talking,” as their second production of the) season. “The Whole Town’s Talking” Is a farce by John Emerson and Aftita Loos. While this show will add nothing to the artistic laurels of the Little Theatre it is probably considered advisable to devote one production of the season to the business of muking the patrons laugh. If this is the case they succeeded admirably. “The Whole Town’s Talking’ is well laden with funny situations and bright lines of the variety technically knowns as “wise cracks.” The cast might have been improved in one or two spots, but was on the whole well chosen. A larg’ audience was apparently highly .amused and well pleased. Cast ' 'nil was as follows: Harriet Simmons. .Mrs. Fred L. Pettllnh. Annie Corne’ia Titu A Taxi Orirer Marion Orlo! Simmons .... Ralph F. Thompson ’ i !thel Simmons Bernice Spadf Burr Shields Clarence M. Weesner Che ter Binney Parker Wheat’eSally Otis Mrs. Chester Fruiair 1 Li a Wilson . . . Mary Hove Donald Swift . . . John K. Rueke’shaus Jr. Lotty Lythe .. . Mrs. James MeDi l Fari Sadie B'oom Irma Ulrich The first presentation in English of Luigi Pirandello's satiric comedy. “Each In His Own Way”, is announced as the next production. S. B. B ENGINEERS HEAR FOLEY i Respect for Courts Urged by State Prison Trustee. M. E. Foley, Indiana State Prison trustee, urged respect for courts in the United States, at a dinner Tues day night at the National Council of State Boards of Engineering Ex aminers, Indianapolis Engineering Society, and Indiana Engineering Society at the Columbia Club. “American courts are the basis of progress in this country ifnd should receive more serious respect,” Foley said. Harvey M. Anthony, president of the Indiana board, was elected vice president of the council. $2,000 HOLD-UP PROBED Check Story of Taxi Driver YVho Drove Bandits to Chicago. SOUTH BEND, Ind., Nov. 18.— Authorities today were investigating the story of Joseph Hojnacki, taxi driver, who alleges the bandits, who looted the Elkhart home of H. A. Beardsley, former State Senator Monday, forced him to drive them to Chicago." The house was ransacked of $2,000 in valuables while six persons were held at bay. An Elkhart taxi driver was forced to carry them to South where they commandeered Hojnacki’s cab, fleeing the taxi on arrival in Chicago. Rupture Kills 17,000 Annually Seventeen thousand persons ovsi forty years of age each year are laid away—not to speak of countless others below that ace the burial certidcate belnx marked "Rupture.” Why? Because tho unfortunate ones had neglected themunlvee or had been merely taking care of the sign (swelling) of the affliction and paying no attention to the cause. What are you doing? Are you neglecting youraelf by wearing a truaa, appliance or whatever name you choose to call It? At best, the truss is only a makeshift — g false prop against a collapsing wall—and cannot be expected to act as more than a mere mechanical support. The binding pressure retards blood circulation, thus robbing the weakened muscles of that which they need most —nourishment. But science has found a way, and all truss sufferers In ths land are invited to make a FREE test right In ths privacy of their own homes. The PLAPAO method Is unquestionably the most selentlflc logical and successful self-treat-ment for rupture the world has ever known. The PLAPAO PAD when adhering closely to ths body oannot possibly slip or shift out of place, therefore cannot chafe or pinch. Soft as velvet- —easy to apply comparatively Inexpensive. To be used whilst you work ana whilst you sleep. No straps, buckles or springs attached. Learn how to close the hernial opening as nature Intended so the rupture CAN'T come down. Send your name today to PLAPAO CO., 24 Stuart IBldg., St. Louis, Mo., for FREE trial Plapao and Instructive Information. —(e)P.L. —Advertise man l.
