The Tangle LETTER FROM PRISCILLA BRADFORD TO MRS. MARY ALDEN PRESCOTT. My Dear Mary: It has been over a year since I have heard from you directly and I’ve often wondered If you ever thought of your old friend, Priscilla. Os course, the newspapers have told us all about John and John's wife. He certainly married into a rich family when he married Leslie, didn't he? It is no wonder that, knowing the wealth of the Hamiltons, he would pass up all his old neighbors for a chance to marry into such financial society. How does it seem to be always in the newspapers? I can remember when you thought it was a disgrace to have your name In our little local sheet, but now the name of John Alden Prescott has figured in all sorts of exciting and more or less dubious news items. Why, even, almost a column was given over to the birth of Leslie’s child, which

was described with shocking frankness. The death of Miss Ellington, the loss of Leslie’s diamond, with the parties given by Leslie and those given for her. seem to have made history for your family. I am not quite sure, however, if it’s the kind I would like to have about mine. You have been so busy I suppose it has been quite easy to forget all yOur friends in this sleepy old town and I would have allowed myself to rest in the oblivion to which you consigned us, if I had not met a man* the other day who was sure that he knew you and who, I am sure, does not know you at all. The gentleman is the brother of the people to whom you rented your house. His name is Mr. Orson Gibson. I don’t know whether you know it or not, but the Gibsons have made themselves well liked here. They are most conservative and stable people, just the kind that we who have lived here all our lives are pleased to see make our little town their home. The other evening Mr. and Mrs. Gibson gave a little party to introduce their brother to their freinds in the village. Naturally, your names came up as all your old neighbors were wondering

Lee Says DON’T ENVY EACH OTHER—BE YOURSELF
You can please some people most of the time, and most of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all the people all of the time, so what’s the use of ruining your disposition trying the turn into a chameleon of pleasantness?
If you have a naturally rotten disposition then you should certainly Improve it for general use. But if your disposition is naturally amiable, cheerful, fun-loving and pleasant, don’t go around wishing you were like some other person. Be yourself. Sometimes the sunny girl wishes she were like the lithe, dark, deep, dreamy temptress, and the latter wishes she could give her personality openly, freely, like the sunshine of the first girl. The quiet girl envies the talker and the talker wishes she didn’t talk so much and envies the quiet girl. And all the time, each in her own way, is just what the people want —most of the time. Envies Shyness Dear Martha Lee: 1 am a srtrl 16 years old. I have brown hair and eyes. I know quite a few fellow*. I go with a girl who is tlio same age as I. She is very quirt when with fellows and I am very talkative. Some of them tease me about talking so much. Mis* Lee should I try to talk less or just go on being my natural self? Perhaps your husband can be approached through the child: it would be better for her to be reared in your own home than in a boarding house.
