SIX DEAD, MANY HURT IN STATE ACCIDENT TOLL Two Miners Killed in Gas Blast —Fall in Kitchen Fatal to Woman. Six dead and eight injured was Indiana’s accident toll for the last twenty-four hours. At Terre Haute Joseph Stevenson and son William, were killed in a gas explosion in a mine. The men were carrying open lights which ignited the gas in a pocket which they walked into. Mrs. Gretchen Franco, of near Muncle was instantly killed when she slipped and fell on the kitchen floor, breaking her neck. Killed by Train At Thorntown James Moore stepped in front of a passenger train and died instantly. Andrew Varde, railroad engineer slipped from the cab of his engine at Jeffersonville and received injuries which resulted in his death. Exposure resulted in the death of Mrs. Harriet Shoemaker, of Warsaw, who wandered from her home clad only in a nightgown. O. E. Buchanan of Frankfort, had a miraculous escape from death, when he was hit by a train and dragged him several feet. He never lost consciousness. At Newcastle, Everett Stohler is recovering from injuries received received in an automobile accident. ' His shoulder was broken. left eye and the loss of the sight is feared. t At Anderson, Bliss Reynolds was severely cut when his motorcycle collided with an automobile and Hobert Merritt, of Franklin, re ceived injuries which probably will disfigure him for life. Merritt stepped from a moving train and the skin was peeled from his face when he fell in the gravel track ballast. Mrs. William Somerer of South Bend, is recovering in a Ft. Wayne hospital from three broken ribs sustained when the automobile In which she was riding with her husband sideswdped another machine. The husband was cut about the face and head. Samuel Hulce, 12. of Mdrion, was slightly wounded by a blank shell fired by a machine gun in the centennial celebration. Triple Crash Mrs. Charles McCormick of Indianapolis received a broken leg and Mr. and Mrs. John Watson of Westfield were bruised in a triple auto crash on the Range Line Rd. near Carmel. A machine driven by John Newby struck the Watson car, shoving it across the road. The auto in which Mrs. McCormick was riding and driven by her husband, an Indianapolis physician, was following and could not stop in time to avoid the Watson car. HINER PLEA IS DENIED Federal Court at Columbus, Ohio, Monday, denied an injunction against the public utilities commission of Ohio, sought by the Red Ball Transit Company, Indianapolis, and Clark and Riggs, Aurora, Ind. W. B. Hiner, head of the company, was in Columbus today. The Indiana companies sought an injunction to prevent the commission from instituting or carrying out criminal prosecution against them on the charge that the State motor transportation act was violated.

PUMPKINS ARE QUOTED CHEAP Sweet Cider and Apples at City Market. Halloween brings thoughts of pumpkin pies, sweet cider and red apples. The “makin’s” for all three of these were found today at the city market. Pumpkins sold according to size from 10 to 20 cents e&ch; sweet bottled cider sold at SI a gallon and compound cider was 75 cents a gallon. Red apples were selling from 4 to 5 pounds for 25 cents. New arrivals were California tomatoes at 25 cents a pound; Idaho russett potatoes 4 pounds for 25 cents and home grown parsnips 2 and 3 pounds for 15 cents. Other prices were: Burmuda onions 10 cents each; Florida oranges 60 to 75 cents a dozen; Florida grapefruit 10 and 15 cents each; Grimes Golden apples 5 pounds for 25 cents; sweet potato squash 5 and 10 cents each; Hubbard squash 25 and 50 cents each; Tokay grapes 2 pounds for 25 cents; and cabbage 3 cents a pound. Lemons were lower and sold at 30 to 50 cents a dozen; limes 50 cents a dozen; hot house green beans 25 cents a pound; cauliflower 30 to 60 cents a head; alligator pears 50 cents each; artichokes 25 cents each; Brussell sprouts 25 cents a box; persimmons 20 cents a box; butter, 60 cents a pound; eggs. 50 and 53 cents a dozen; chickens, 40 cents a pound; sweet potatoes, 5 pounds for 25 cents, and bananas 20 and 25 cents a dozen. AIR ACCIDENTS KILL ONE A DAY Plane Fatalities Mount During Aeronautics Trial. Bu Time Special WASHINGTON, Oct. 20.—The fatal airplane crash near Cape May Court House, N. J., which caused the death of three-Army fliers Monday, raised the rate of aircraft fatalities in the United States to at least one a day for the last fortnight. During that period aeronautics has been on trial before the President’s special aircraft board which last week ended its hearings to study testimony presented before it. All these accidents have occurred with the Shenandoah disaster and the near loss of the PN-9 still fresh In the memory of the country. In the most recent crashes, three men lost their lives near New Salem, Pa., one filer was killed during the races at Mitchell Field, L. 1., an air mail pilot lost his life in an accident in Pennsylvania; three were killed In or near Chicago, and two commercial fliers lost their lives at Long Beach, Cal. - VICTIM IS OVERPOWERED Robberies Over City Are Reported to Police Headquarters. Three young men overpowered Carl Koons, 337 E. Morris St.., while he walked between Alabama and New Jersey Sts., on Ohio St., Monday evening, and robbed him of $42, he told police. George Owensbaugh, 1945 Barth Ave., said his brother-in-law, Frank Ransdell, moved from J 127 E. Raymond St., to Franklin, Ind., and carpenter and excavating tools valued at SSO were stolen from a shed. Janies A. New, 4467 College Ave., told police a SSO revolver was taken from his home.
