STATE GAINS ON INSURANCE Department Shows Larger Profit For Year. §>"i(h the increase of .SB,OOO in its for this fiscal year, the {•♦Jute insurance department was able to turn into the State treasury $132,635.71 more than the year, before according to the annual report of Thomas S. McMurray Jr., State insurance commissioner. Receipts of the department during the period aggregated $1,657,837.43. This includes $1,412,383.01 in general premium taxes collected, $170,957.71 in insurance fees, and $75,396.71 in fire marshal taxes. Total appropriations to the department for the fiscal year which ended Sept. 30, was $69,306.65, of which $67,671.98 was expended, leaving a net profit to the State of $1,590,165.45, McMurray asserted. The fees collected on premiums indicates a $46,000,000 business transacted by the companies in Indiana during the period.

GARY MAY BE BIGGER GARY, Ind., Oct. 16.—Pittas for the annex£Rion of all of Calumet township to the city of Gary have been approved by the local chamber of commerce. A committee has been named to make a survey of conditions in” the township and complete plans for the annexation.

Twelve hundred and forty-two apples went into the making of a huge apple design displayed in the horticultural building at the State fairground in connection with the National Dairy Exposition.
