PROSPERITY OF ROADS ON RISE Records Being Smashed Every Week. Times Washinaton Bureau. 1322 New York Avenue. WASHINGTON, Oct. 9.—Railroads continue toward unprecedented prosperity. Present conditions continuing, the roads are In position to earn more revenue from freight In 1925 than any previous year. At teh end of July, freight revenue was more than $52,000,000 behind the 1923 figure for the corresponding period. Since then, however, the roads have been crashing records as fast as they/ encounter them. For eight consecutive weeks freight loadings exceded the million-car mark. During the week ending Aug. 29 a total of 1,124,436 cars were loaded, the greatest freight week ever recorded. And the very next week th toadsi reported almost as great a figure. The result of this sudden boom is that the railroads at the end of September had loaded 3-5,627,852 cars since the beginning ofthe year, exceeding the 1923 record by 482,917 cars. While revenues are soaring, railroad operating expenses are declining. Top operating figure was $5,954,393,793 in 1920. In 1923 it had declined to $4,999,383,388 and is expected to go still lower this year. JAILED; SEEKS DAMAGES Man Alleges He Was Unlawfully Kept in City ITison.
