Oct. 7.—President and Mrs. Coolidge early today paid St. Louis a surprise visit, making a short motor tour of the city before most of the inhabitants were out of bed. Arriving here at 6:30 a. m. from Omaha, where yesterday the President addressed the American Legion, the party entered automobiles previously arranged for and enjoyed a drive before breakfast in the crisp morning through the deserted streets After about forty-five minutes the party returned to the train for the departure for Washington at 8 a. m.
SENTENCED MAN IS ORDERED IN Sheriff Told to Get Absent Prisoner. Sheriff Omer Hawkins today was ordered to go to Clinton, Ind., by i Judge James A. Collins, to bring ! back Tony Costa, Clinton man sentenced to the Indiana State Farm on a liquor charge, whoso sentence is being served by a substitute, Louis Garino. Costa is said to be in Clinton. Judge Collins issued a capias for Costa's arrest and ordered the sheriff to produce him in Criminal Court Saturday morning. If Costa fails to appear $2,500 In liberty bonds posted when he appealed his case will be forfeited, Collins said. The fact that Garino was serving Costa's sentence was revealed Monday by Federal dry agents after State Farm Superintendent Ralph Howard became suspicious. An Investigation was started by Judge Collins and Prosecutor Remy to determine if other substitutes are serving sentences for persons convicted in Marion County.
