MAYOR NOT TO USE PRESSURE ON CITY HALL Shank Says Let Employes Do What They Please in Election. Mayor Shank today indicated there would he no pressure to force city hall employes to espouse the cause of John L. Duvall, Republican candidate for mayor. “I’m telling them to do what they please,” he declared. Shank expressed doubt that support of Duvall will avail present ofllce holders anything in retaining their positions if Duvall is elected. '■ They wouldn’t get anything if the other fellow is elected, however, so it’s fifty-fifty,” he commented. Joseph L. Hogue, city controller, voiced the opinion that city hall em , ployes are supporting Duvall from a sense of party loyalty uninfluenced by reward. John Zener, who resigned a captaincy in the police department to work for Walter Myers, Democratic candidate, today was investigating reports that four or five firemen are working at Republican headquarters. “If they don’t take them out of there I’ll file charges against them before the board of safety," Zener asserted. r ’eorge Snider, Republican vice chairman, denied firemen were working at headquarters.
