TAX LEVIES OF COUNTIES GAIN f Auditors Report Higher Rates For 1926 in Majority of .Cases —Owen Figure of $1.19 Is Highest.
Reports to The Indianapolis Times from thirty two of the ninety-two county auditors in .he State show an increase in a minority of cases in the 1926 tax rates. The figures do not include township, State or city levies, but show only what is to be raised for the county governments. Owen County, one of the poorest in the State, shows the highest tax rate, $1.19. This is an increase of 26 cents. Owen County residents, in addition, must pay the 28 cents State levy, township levy, and if they live in a corporation, the levy of the latter. Marion county’s tax rate is 32 cents, an increase of 5% cents. Counties Report The following counties, in alphabetical order, reported to The Times, as follows: ADAMS, Decatur, county seat; 1926 budget, $121,400; 1925 budget, $125,505. Tax rate of 31 cents unchanged, with a 5-cent decrease in macadam road repair. BARTHOLOMEW, Columbus; tax .rate of 46 cents unchanged.
